Design Concept :
The design concept draws inspiration from the unique local identity of Ratchaburi Province, particularly the iconic “Dragon Jar” (Ong Mangkon), a traditional ceramic product with a long-standing history and strong cultural significance.
The designer was inspired by the process of crafting the jar, which involves shaping clay on a rotating pottery wheel. This process creates a series of concentric curved layers that gradually form the body of the jar. The clay used must be of high quality—smooth texture, beautiful color, and heat-resistant.
This concept is translated into the architectural layout plan, which begins with layering curved lines in a circular motion, reflecting the form and rhythm of the pottery process. These curves are then
refined and trimmed to fit the functional space and proportion of the building.
Consequently, the building facade is designed with interlocking curved wall planes, symbolizing the vertical surface layers of a traditional jar. These curvilinear planes help articulate the architectural
mass and enhance the building’s visual depth and dimension. Functionally, the curved walls also provide sun shading, especially from the west and south, reducing heat gain.
The surface of these curved walls is treated with a textured spray finish, resembling the natural
earthen tone and tactile quality of fired clay.
The main entrance features an inverted curve used as a prominent facade gesture, carved vertically
up to the second floor. This bold opening creates a dramatic and inviting entry point that anchors
the design.

Concept :
The design concept for Café Amazon JR Plus, Ratchaburi, was developed in response to the project owner’s vision of promoting tourism in Ratchaburi Province through the expression of its unique local identity.
The design draws inspiration from Ratchaburi’s cultural heritage, natural attractions, and distinctive characteristics represented in the province’s motto. These elements have been abstracted into a series of flowing graphic curves that symbolize the essence of Ratchaburi. The curved forms are inspired by various local identities, including the expressive gestures and dynamic movements found in the traditional Nang Yai shadow puppet performance at Wat Khanon, one of the province’s most significant cultural landmarks.
Similar organic curves can also be found throughout Ratchaburi’s natural attractions, such as the dramatic stalactite formations within Khao Bin Cave. These recurring forms were interpreted as a unifying visual language that reflects both the cultural and natural identity of the province.
This conceptual language was subsequently translated into the architectural design through the entrance feature and the exterior façade treatment. The façade incorporates a composition of carved and layered curved openings with varying heights and depths, creating visual rhythm and architectural interest. Beyond its aesthetic role, the façade functions as a climatic buffer, providing solar protection from southern exposure while creating privacy and screening unwanted views and traffic activity within the service station environment.
To further enhance the visitor experience and reinforce the identity of Café Amazon as a green and relaxing destination, the landscape design envelops the building on almost all sides. The surrounding greenery creates pleasant visual connections, provides natural shading, improves the microclimate, and contributes to reducing heat gain within the building, resulting in a comfortable and inviting environment.

The design concept is inspired by the origin of Phetchaburi’s name, derived from the local legend of shimmering lights seen on Khao Daen, believed to be reflections from precious gems.

This concept is translated into architecture through the faceted geometry of gemstones, using folded origami-inspired forms to shape the building mass and front façade. The folded façade not only symbolizes the brilliance of a diamond but also functions as a sun-shading element, reducing western heat gain while creating a dynamic interplay of light, shadow, and transparency.
