Who we are
SHADE is registered as a Local Non-Governmental Organization under the laws of Sierra Leone to serve as humanitarian, development, rights-based environmental civil society organization, community-based land governance advocacy institution that is non-religious, non-political. It works, collaborate and coordinate with both private and public sectors to improve upon people’s living standards and their environment. It was established on the 1st January, 2012 to serve as sub-partner to Bioclimate/UK to implement USAID biodiversity, climate change and forest conservation project in the Outamba-Kilimi National Park/Kuru Hills in the Tambaka Chiefdom, Republic of Sierra Leone and the Pensilie-Soya Reserve Forest in the Republic of Guinea.
Due to funding constraints since 2017, SHADE adopted a low profile project implementation by using a small free office space, undertook low key interventions that require little expenditure such as supporting pupils in rural communities who excel in the National Primary School Examination, support women in Household Savings and Loan Scheme, support awareness raising, consultancies, capacity building in shade crop cultivation etc. SHADE signed memorandum of agreement with Sierra Leone Poverty Alleviation Agency in 2017 to implement UNICEF funded project on Moderate and Acute Malnutrition (MAM), Severe and Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) and Integrated Youth and Community Feeding (IYCF).
