Elementor = slow? Not necessarily.

With our latest Quartier WordPress theme, we managed to reach a +90 mobile PageSpeed score while still keeping Elementor support.

For us, the bigger change is how the theme itself is built.

We moved away from the old shortcode-heavy approach and use WordPress blocks as the foundation instead.

That gives us a cleaner, more modern structure and avoids locking everything into old custom shortcode logic.

Of course, blocks alone don’t create a fast website.

Performance still depends on the whole setup: images, fonts, scripts, plugins, hosting and how much unnecessary stuff gets loaded.

But I think Quartier proves one useful point:

A flexible WordPress website and a fast website don’t have to be two different things.

A fast WordPress theme can still produce a slow website.

Why?

Because your visitors don't download only the theme. They download everything added around it:

Plugins.
Images and video.
Fonts.
Analytics.
Cookie tools.
Chat widgets.
Maps.
Tracking scripts.
And everything affected by hosting and caching.

A good theme gives you a strong foundation.

But website performance depends on the whole production site, not only the theme you started with.

There is always another discussion about whether WordPress is old, whether AI will replace website building, or whether everything should be custom.

Sometimes it’s more useful to simply look at what businesses are actually building with WordPress today.

People don't just Google anymore. They ask AI — and most websites are quietly becoming invisible because of it.

"SEO is dead" isn't true. But "SEO is only about ranking #1 on Google" is now badly out of date. More people get their answer straight from ChatGPT or Google's AI summary without clicking anything. If a site can't be read and understood by those systems, it doesn't exist in the place people increasingly start.

The fix isn't a trick. It's clarity:

Write real text. AI can't read words baked into an image. If prices or services only live in graphics, they may as well not exist.

Structure it. Headings, short sections, a plain FAQ — for humans and machines both.

Answer real questions. "How much does X cost?" "Do you serve my area?" Those are the pages AI pulls from.

Keep it fast and accessible. The same clean site that ranks and converts is the one AI can read.

This is also why WordPress isn't going anywhere — it bends to whatever comes next. The web changed how it gets found; a well-built WordPress site just keeps up.

A website handover should be more than:

“Here’s your WordPress login.”

A website may stay online for years, so the owner should know the basics from day one:

Who owns the domain and hosting?
Where are the backups?
Who gets the form emails?
Which licences need renewing?
What can safely be edited?
Who handles updates?
And who helps if something breaks later?

For us, a website isn’t really delivered just because it is live.

It’s delivered when the next person can actually manage it without guessing how everything works.

A good handover should make the client less dependent on the developer, not more.
