It is common for pot-grown Platycerium to become leggy as the rhizome gradually extends beyond the potting medium. When this happens, the plant may dry out more quickly.

This can be easily managed by mounting up the plant. Mounting provides better support and allows the Platycerium to continue growing in a form closer to its natural habit.

If your potted Platycerium is becoming leggy, it may be telling you that it is ready to be mounted.

One plant, two distinct expressions.

P. hillii is remarkably versatile, adapting beautifully to different light conditions. Its ability to thrive with less light also makes it a suitable choice for home interiors, where natural light may be limited.

In lower light, its fertile fronds tend to grow wider with a deeper shade of green and vice versa in a bright environment.

One of the situations we dread the most.

It takes a great deal of focus and careful reading of the plant’s growth points to determine exactly where to make the cut. There’s little room for error.

Done right, a single plant can reward you with multiple offspring. Get it wrong, and you could be left with none.

A delicate decision where experience, patience, and precision make all the difference.
