PRESIDENT’S DESIGN AWARD 20 | DESIGN OF THE YEAR
BISHAN PUBLIC LIBRARY

A remarkable landmark within the heart of Bishan, the Bishan Library transforms a constrained urban site into a place of calm, discovery and connection.

Inspired by the idea of an abstract treehouse, the library’s iconic coloured reading pods extend from its glazed façade, creating intimate spaces where readers can escape into their books while remaining connected to the surrounding city.

Natural light filters through skylights, trellises and the distinctive parasol roof, creating a serene interior atmosphere. From its floating roof to its vibrant reading pods, every element was thoughtfully designed to bring a sense of wonder to the everyday.

A library that is more than a place to read — a distinctive urban landmark where architecture, nature and imagination come together.

Mr. Look Boon Gee was invited to the SUTD Housing Studio Final Review at SUTD in Andrew Lee’s Urban Living Studio on 27th April 2026.

The review was about reimagination of Bishan MRT Depot in Year 2060 with new housing typologies. Mr. Look was impressed by the ideas of from keeping the existing MRT tracks and viaduct, to designing landscapes that flood on purpose to handle stormwater in a climate-changed future. The ideas integrates existing infrastructure with climate-resilient landscape design for a sustainable future.

The projects pushed hard on social sustainability and made you think. Great discussions with the students and fellow jurors, Mr. Brian Low from BRI and Ms. Yap Lay Bee from URA.

Honestly, it was such a refreshing break from the usual practice routine. Singapore’s next gen of architects are asking the right questions.

Mr Look and Ms Ng attended Singapore Polytechnic School of Architecture & the Build Environment (ABE) Graduation Show on 13 March 2026.

The theme for this year graduation show is based on Lumen – Spark the Future which showcases a visionary collection of final-year projects from Architecture, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture students, highlighting their creative ideas dealing with present day challenges like climate change, dwindling natural resources, rapid technological & digital transformation.

Mr. Look was honoured to be invited to speak at the Inaugural HDB Architecture & Landscape Design Talk-shop organised by the HDB Chief Architect’s Council on 25 February 2026.

During the session, he shared his design approach and perspectives on Fudao, contributing to a meaningful dialogue on architecture as drivers of social and community development. He also emphasised the importance of sustaining one’s passion for innovation despite challenges, and upholding moral leadership throughout the ex*****on of project.

包括我司骆文义在内等多位新加坡设计师作品在展览中亮相，呈现新加坡与中国在设计理念上的交流，同时承载两国35年的文化合作。

On October 18, the Watch Design Museum — one of only two design museums in China — officially opened in Chongqing.
The opening exhibition, themed “Continuous Questioning,” brings together design voices from across Asia and around the world, exploring the relationship between cities, nature, and culture.
Works by our principal, Boon Gee Look, alongside other leading Singaporean designers, are featured in the exhibition, reflecting the creative dialogue between Singapore and China and celebrating 35 years of cultural collaboration between the two nations.

LOOK Architects thoughtfully revitalized St. Margaret’s Primary—Singapore’s oldest girls’ school—integrating light, greenery, and community spaces while honouring its historic roots.

St. Margaret's School (Primary) recently held their start of school service on the 30th of December. It was a special service that was attended by both members from the primary and secondary schools as it marked the return of the primary school to its original site. Mr Look and Ms Ng were presented with a token of appreciation for the hard work and efforts put in by the team. We wish all a wonderful year ahead!
