Truth is, we didn't start loving red and white because of August ,we just noticed August gave us a good excuse to talk about it.

Red brings warmth and energy into a space; white keeps it grounded and lets the red breathe. Together, they're less "flag colours" and more just... a really good combination for a home.

πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬ If your home could throw a National Day party, this is what it'd wear.
Cotillion Red is the version of red that knows how to have fun ,playful, warm, made for a lounge corner with good music and better company. Lex White Half keeps it grounded so the red pops without overwhelming the room.

However you're celebrating this year rooftop, void deck, or your own living room ,may your home feel just as proud as the flags outside.
Happy 61st, Singapore. πŸŽ‰

πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬ Some homes shout National Day. This one just quietly means it.
Carriage Red takes the flag's energy and turns the volume down ,deep, dignified, made for a dining room you actually want to slow down in. Reserved White keeps the ceiling light and the mood easy, so the red gets to do the talking.

Not every celebration needs to be loud.
Some just need to last past August 9th.

πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬ Red and white never looked this good on a wall.
This National Day, we're taking cues from the flag we grew up saluting .bold red, clean white, nothing in between. Knockout Red brings the same warmth as those National Day fireworks, paired back with Intimate White for a living room that feels lived-in, not showroom.
Whether it's a feature wall behind the sofa or built-ins flanking the fireplace (or in our case, the TV console), this combo says home before it says holiday.
Majulah, one wall at a time. πŸ”΄βšͺ

Meet the Oriental magpie-robin
the comeback bird of Singapore's gardens.
It used to be one of the three most common birds in Singapore, until excessive trapping for the cage bird trade ,plus competition from the more aggressive java myna caused numbers to collapse.

A reintroduction programme launched in the early 1980s helped reverse the decline, and today its song carries through parks and gardens across the island again including green corridors like Maju Forest.

Still, it remains a nationally threatened species, and the illegal bird trade hasn't stopped. Proof a species can come back from the brink .if we give it room to.

Meet the long-tailed macaque
Long before the estate blocks and expressways, this was already home. Long-tailed macaques are native to our forests, not visitors, and they're a fundamental part of Singapore's biodiversity. They live along forest edges, foraging on leaves, insects, flowers and fruit .and yes, occasionally raiding a rubbish bin, but that's usually us encroaching on their space, not the other way round.

Fun fact: their scientific name, fascicularis, was actually coined by Sir Stamford Raffles himself , though even he never explained why.

In Maju Forest, troops of macaques use the site daily, which also happens to be an important ecological corridor linking Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Lose patches like this, and animals lose the paths that connect one green space to the next.

Meet the changeable hawk-eagle
One of Singapore's apex forest predators.
It gets its name from having multiple colour morphs, ranging from pale to almost all-dark. It's listed in the Singapore Red Data Book as a nationally threatened, uncommon resident, and as an apex predator, it serves as an indicator of how healthy our ecosystems really are.

The good news: it used to be rare here, but is slowly becoming more common, with an estimated 9 nesting pairs a year.
It's one of the species recorded in Maju Forest ,a reminder that if a top predator is nesting somewhere, the forest beneath it is doing something right.

Meet the buffy fish owl !
One of Singapore's most recognisable native owls.
You can spot it by its warm brown feathers, bold streaks, and bright yellow eyes , plus a pair of ear-like tufts that are actually just feathers, used for owl-to-owl signalling (not for hearing).

It's a fish hunter through and through, perched over mangroves, forested streams, and reservoirs at dawn and dusk, waiting to sn**ch fish, crabs and frogs right out of the water.

It's also been recorded in Maju Forest, drawn to the same forested stream that runs through the site . the kind of quiet, water-fringed habitat this owl needs to hunt undisturbed.its population is stable across the region. But it still relies on patches like this one to get by in a city.

Big yellow eyes, bigger presence. 🌿

Meet the Sunda pangolin ,one of Singapore's own.
Out of eight pangolin species worldwide, the Sunda pangolin is the only one native to Singapore .It's also the only mammal on the planet with scales, made of keratin (same stuff as your nails), with no teeth, a tongue longer than its own body, and a habit of curling into a tight ball when it's scared.

It's the world's most trafficked mammal, and numbers have dropped by over 50% in just the last 15 years, earning it a Critically Endangered listing.

Sunda pangolin numbers have fallen by over 50% in the past 15 years due to illegal trade.
