SPARK is known for its creative design-solutions and the way it helps its clients to add value to their projects. Over the last ten years, the work of SPARK has transcended the limitations of region, scale and typology. SPARK’s work ranged from the boutique micro-shop to city-scale urban planning. SPARK’s recently successful work includes the World-Architectural Festival Winner “Home-Farm”, the Cityscape-Asia Best waterfront project “Clarke Quay Redevelopment” and MIPIM Asia’s Best Mixed Use Award Winner “Shanghai International Cruise Terminal”. These SPARK creations reflect a sensitive and tactful response to urban trends，the integration of technology, and the handmade sculpting of architectural space. SPARK’s three studios in London, Singapore and Shanghai are led by founding directors Stephen Pimbley and Lim Wenhui both of whom are engaged in new forms of urban thinking and research driven design, principally in the areas of commercial-repurposing, waterfront regeneration, healthcare, cultural and education facilities. Testament to this are projects such as Beach Hut, Home Farm, Solar Orchid and the award winning Innovative Paddington Place a 70,000 sqm mixed-use development in the heart of London.

The Huawei Guangzhou R&D Campus, designed by SPARK, is a winner for the Mixed-use Development Category in this year's Iconic Awards.

​Thank you to the organisers at ICONIC AWARDS for the recognition.

A project of this size is a collective effort—thank you to our client, Huawei Technologies Co,. Ltd, our partners, and the entire team involved for their hard work and collaboration throughout.

​Sited along the Pearl River, the campus plan keeps the site connected to its past. At its heart, the 1950s Huaqiao Sugar Factory warehouse was kept and restored into a shared space for gatherings and events, giving the historic building a new life.

​It was an engaging process working with the existing site context, historic concrete vaulted hall of the sugar factory building, and new workspaces, including a hotel building, across the wider grounds.

The Move into Jiaojiang Seafood Trading Market Has Begun!

Here’s a first look inside the new trading hall as vendors officially begin moving into the Jiaojiang Seafood Trading Market. Key highlights from the pre-opening update via Jiaojiang Release (椒江发布):

• The official relocation kicked off August 10, replacing the former temporary trading grounds.

• Hall trading begins around August 12 to align with the opening of the coastal fishing season.

• 145 total stalls across three operational tiers (81 permanent, 28 short-term, 36 direct-sales).

• Full merchant transition across all spaces wraps up by the end of August.

Phase 2 - The Jiaojiang Seafood Trading Market, is part of a collection of riverfront plots of a larger
development: The Jiaojiang Fishery Town, master-planned and designed by SPARK: Modernising urban
markets into clean, highly organised, and efficient commercial hubs while honouring local fishing culture and
economic vitality.

The construction of the Chinalin International Financial Centre located in the World Expo Area, Pudong, Shanghai, is slated for overall completion by the end of December 2026, with official commissioning scheduled for May 2027.

Bridging Heritage and High-Tech: The Renewal of Guangzhou’s Huaqiao Sugar Factory

The project centers around the restoration of a Grade-1 listed, 1950s barrel-vaulted warehouse. Once used to store imported raw sugar, this iconic 80-meter concrete structure has been reimagined into a vibrant venue for exhibitions and campus events within the site of the new Huawei Guangzhou R&D Campus, along the Pearl River waterfront.
