Here are some of my Aussie waterlily collection.
They can be huge and they usually need bigger ponds to thrive.
How do they look differently from the tropical day waterlilies?

New Lotus hybrid 🌸

Out of 10 seeds that germinated, this is the only one I feel is worth keeping and observing further. Growing lotus from seed is always a bit of a lucky dip.

So what do we look for in a promising new hybrid?
* Is she prolific? One bloom now, with another two buds coming. Promising so far.
* Is the flower form attractive and stable from bloom to bloom, and season to season?
* How easy is she to repot, and does she produce good, healthy tubers?
* How long is her flowering season?
* What is her natural plant size, and what pot size brings out her best performance?

A beautiful first flower is only the beginning. A new hybrid needs to prove herself over several growing cycles before we really know what we have. Observation may take years… but that is part of the fun of hybridising lotus. 🌸😊
