*Doing well by doing good. 🌱*

Some experiences teach you something new. Others change the way you see what you already do.

The Company of Good Fellowship was one of those experiences for me.

Over the past few months, I had the privilege of learning, reflecting and exchanging ideas with fellow leaders who are committed to creating businesses that contribute beyond the bottom line.

One thought kept coming back to me:
What if doing good isn't something we do alongside business — but something we build into the way we do business?

That question feels especially relevant to me as an architect. Because architecture is ultimately about people.

The spaces we design influence how people live, work, learn, connect and experience the world around them. They can include or exclude. They can empower or limit. They can nurture wellbeing, or simply fulfil a function.

And every building also carries an environmental footprint — from the materials we choose, to how we source them, build with them, maintain them and eventually replace them.

These reflections have reinforced something close to my heart and to what we are building at Archtur.

It is no longer simply creating beautiful spaces. We want to rethink how spaces can be experience-led, inclusive, accessible and sustainable.

To explore better materials and more responsible ways of building.
To design with greater empathy for the people who will use these spaces.
And to be conscious that every project we work on becomes part of a larger world that someone else will eventually inherit.

We believe the future of architecture must go beyond aesthetics.

It must ask:
Who are we designing for?
Who might we be leaving out?
What are we consuming?
What are we giving back?
And what kind of world are we leaving behind?

At Archtur, we hope to make these questions part of our everyday practice because we believe architecture has the power — and responsibility — to keep asking better questions.

The Company of Good Fellowship has also reminded me that purpose isn't only found in what we create externally.

It is reflected in how we treat our people.

How we share knowledge.
How we serve others.
How we create opportunities.
How we contribute to our communities.
And how willing we are to use what we know and what we have to make a difference.

Doing well by doing good is not a destination. It is a mindset. A culture.
And, ultimately, a choice.

I'm grateful to NVPC, the Company of Good team, our mentors, facilitators and my fellow Fellows for the conversations, perspectives and friendships that have shaped this journey.

The fellowship may have ended.
But the responsibility continues. And so does the work.

To design beyond ourselves.
To create with purpose.
To serve with intention.
And to help build a world that the younger generations can inherit with pride and optimism.

Shaping Buildings. Shaping People.

Architecture isn't only about the spaces we create—it is also about the people who will continue building our future.

We are honoured that our Principal Architect, Ar. Jonathan Lim, was invited to the SUSS Faculty Appreciation Event 2026, recognising the contributions of educators who have dedicated themselves to nurturing the next generation of professionals.

For the past two years, Jonathan has been teaching Construction Project Management (BPM203) at SUSS, sharing practical industry experiences with students entering Singapore's built environment sector.

At Archtur, we believe every lesson shared, every conversation held and every student mentored contributes towards a stronger industry for generations to come.

As our profession continues to evolve, investing in people remains one of the most meaningful ways we can create lasting impact.

Thank you, SUSS, for the opportunity to be part of this journey.

Here's to inspiring the next generation of architects, project managers and built environment leaders.

As the curtains close on the 20th edition of Singapore Archifest, our hearts are filled with gratitude.

This year's festival was more than a celebration of architecture—it was a celebration of collaboration, innovation and the people who continue shaping Singapore's built environment.

It also marked a milestone that our team will always treasure.

We are deeply honoured that our Principal Architect, Ar. Jonathan Lim, was conferred the Overall Young Architect of the Year 2026, together with the Category Champion – Project Management award.

To receive this recognition during the 20th anniversary of Archifest makes this achievement especially meaningful.

Our sincere thanks to the Ministry of National Development, the Singapore Institute of Architects, SIA Young Architects League, Building and Construction Authority (Singapore), the organising committee, judges, sponsors, volunteers and everyone who worked tirelessly to make this remarkable festival possible.

Throughout Archifest, we were inspired by the shared vision for a more innovative, collaborative and future-ready built environment. We are encouraged by the continued commitment towards strengthening our profession through digital transformation, sustainability, capability development and stronger partnerships across the industry.

These are values that Archtur strongly believes in.

While this award bears Jonathan's name, it truly reflects the trust of our clients, the dedication of our teammates, the expertise of our consultants and contractors, the guidance of our mentors, and the support of our families and friends.

Thank you for being part of our journey.

As we celebrate this milestone, we also embrace the responsibility that comes with it—to continue learning, serving, collaborating and contributing meaningfully to Singapore's built environment.

Here's to building a better future, together.

Growing the profession is just as important as growing our practice.

At Archtur, we’ve always believed that architecture extends far beyond the projects we deliver. It is equally about nurturing people, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a stronger, more connected professional community.

We were honoured to represent Singapore Institute of Architects and Young Architects League to take part in this year's 4 Nations Live Design Discourse held at Kuala Terengganu, contributing alongside Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand architects & students from PAM, IAI and ASA.

While we were privileged to share our experiences as a young practice in Singapore, what made the greatest impact on us was everything we learnt in return.

Throughout the programme, we exchanged ideas with talented architects from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, explored different perspectives on design and practice, and forged friendships that transcended geographical boundaries. Every conversation reinforced an important reminder—that the challenges facing our profession may differ across countries, but our aspirations for better cities, stronger communities, and a more resilient built environment are remarkably similar.

Beyond the formal programme, it was the moments between sessions that made the experience truly memorable. The generosity of the organising committee, the camaraderie among participants, the spontaneous conversations over meals, the late-night project discussions, and the friendships formed along the way reminded us that meaningful collaboration is built on genuine human connections.

As a practice, we remain grateful for opportunities like these that allow us to both contribute and continue learning. They strengthen our conviction that the future of architecture will not be shaped by individual firms working in isolation, but by professionals who are willing to share openly, collaborate generously, and collectively elevate our industry.

Our sincere appreciation goes to the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the Young Architects League (YAL), the organising committee (PAM), our fellow mentors, and every student participant who made this journey so meaningful.

The programme may have concluded, but the relationships built, perspectives gained, and inspiration drawn from this experience will undoubtedly continue to influence the way we practise architecture for years to come.

Here’s to building not only better places, but a stronger profession together.

🎙️ Every architect has a different story.

Some take the conventional path. Others choose to build something of their own.

We were honoured to be invited by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) Young Architects League (YAL) to share our journey of starting Archtur Pte Ltd—from taking the leap into entrepreneurship, navigating the uncertainties of running a young practice, to the lessons we’ve learnt (and continue to learn) along the way.

The conversation wasn’t about having all the answers. It was about sharing an honest perspective on the realities, challenges and opportunities of building an architectural practice in today’s evolving industry.

If our experiences can encourage even one student or young architect to stay curious, remain resilient, or discover their own path within the profession, then it has been a conversation worth having.

A heartfelt thank you to the YAL team for the invitation and for creating platforms like these to support, inspire and retain the next generation of architects.

The podcast will be released soon on the SIA and YAL social media platforms, including the SIA YouTube channel. We hope you’ll tune in, and perhaps you’ll find a few insights that resonate with your own journey.

Stay tuned—we’re excited to share it with you.

Most people see a site.
Developers see potential.

But the best ones? They read the city.

URA’s 9 urban design elements aren’t just planning guidelines—they’re signals. Signals of value, intent, and where the next opportunity lies.

• Urban pattern → where intensity belongs
• Streetscape & activity → where life happens
• Greenery & open space → where value appreciates
• Form, views & light → what ultimately sells

When you start seeing the city through this lens, redevelopment stops being reactive—and becomes strategic.

Because great projects aren’t just built on land.
They’re built on understanding.

⚠️ Before you spend millions rebuilding your landed home, ask yourself one question:

"How much of my land can I actually build on?"

The answer is often far less than most homeowners expect.

From setback requirements and height controls to attic envelopes and site coverage regulations, Singapore's planning guidelines significantly influence what can—and cannot—be built.

But these regulations don't just shape the exterior of your home—they directly impact the way your interior spaces are planned.

The allowable building envelope influences everything from room sizes and ceiling heights to staircase placement, natural lighting, ventilation, and how spaces connect across different levels. Every planning constraint becomes a design consideration that affects how comfortably and efficiently you live within the home.

The most successful landed projects begin with understanding the rules before sketching the dream.

Good architecture isn't just about beautiful design.

It's about unlocking the maximum potential of a site while navigating complex regulations with confidence.

Planning a rebuild, reconstruction, or major renovation of your landed property?

Start with the regulations. Your future home depends on it.

What does it truly mean to be an architect today?

For us at Archtur Pte Ltd, it goes far beyond producing drawings or beautiful buildings. It is about creating clarity amidst complexity, leading multidisciplinary teams, navigating regulations, managing stakeholders, and ultimately shaping lives through the built environment.

That is why opportunities to contribute back to the industry through education and mentorship are deeply meaningful to us.

Ar Jonathan Lim has had the privilege of lecturing with working professionals from Singapore University of Social Sciences Building & Project Management programme over the last 2 years, discussing the realities of architectural practice, authority submissions, project management processes, and the evolving responsibilities of built environment professionals in Singapore.

At Archtur, we believe Architecture is about contributing experiences, opening conversations, and helping the next generation avoid costly mistakes while building with greater purpose and awareness.

As Singapore’s built environment continues to evolve, we hope to continue playing our part — not just as architects, but as educators, collaborators, and advocates for better spaces and better industry practices.

Thank you to the students and faculty for the opportunity and engagement throughout the session.

The work we do today shapes not only buildings — but future communities, future professionals, and future possibilities.
