A flight of stairs is more than an element that connects floors.

Designed as a sculpture that reveals itself as one traverses vertically — the treads and risers finished in soft pink tiles, wrapping into a column of patterned glazed tiles that gives texture and relief.

The glass balustrade stays minimal so the geometry of the staircase does the talking. A link between floors, detailed enough to become a moment in the plan.

The pivot door separates two different kitchens — and two different atmospheres.

The wet kitchen, contained and concealed behind dark walnut doors is designed around a central color.

It is deliberately cool in hue and task-focused; contrasting against the evening light that streams through steel frame windows.

Most kitchens are rooms. This one is an object.

In the 40 Swatches Apartment, the dry kitchen was designed to read as a freestanding volume in the open plan — something you encounter, not just use. Copper-textured veneer cabinetry, green marble counters and backsplash, smoked glass uppers, brass fittings throughout.

The wet kitchen sits just behind — a separate room, a different mood, revealed through a pivot door.

This is where 40 material swatches became five decisions.

The main unifying material is an egg-white colored micro cement, applied seamlessly across the apartment floor — giving the narrow 5-metre wide apartment a sense of continuity and span.

A neutral palette is intentional applied — a base for the future occupants to style as they wish, whether eclectic lamp fixtures or conventional furniture pieces.

To the left, the dry kitchen is inserted into the plan, like a piece of furniture, to serve the hosting functions of the home.

Adapting to the small footprint of an existing apartment shell, the challenge was fitting every program a couple needs — one that loves to host, yet values their own privacy.

Walls were removed to open the plan across both floors. Pure geometries introduced sparingly — in the powder room, kitchen, and stairwell — to offer moments of surprise throughout the living space.

The master bedroom is designed around respite and stillness. The material palette echoes the living room, reinforcing the intent — warm timber, linen tones and surfaces. The headwall anchors the space. A steel trim frames a bay window that looks out. The custom dresser and chair is an abstract exercise in form.

Everything is carefully considered. Nothing screams for attention.
