💡 Renovation Tip: Choosing Your Countertop — Quartz vs Sintered Stone

Both are popular choices for Singapore kitchens, and the right pick usually comes down to how you actually cook. Quartz is engineered from natural stone and resin, giving it a consistent pattern, strong scratch resistance, and a slightly softer surface that's kinder to dropped glassware — but it's more sensitive to prolonged heat, so always use a trivet under hot pots. Sintered stone is made under extreme heat and pressure, which makes it highly heat- and stain-resistant and ideal if you cook frequently or do a lot of hot-pan work directly on the counter, though it can be more brittle at the edges during fabrication and installation. Both are non-porous and easy to maintain day-to-day. If you're going for a large island with a waterfall edge, ask your contractor about slab thickness and seam placement for either material — that detail affects the finished look more than the material choice itself.

Not everything needs to go behind a door.

At 350B Canberra Road, open console bays sit alongside closed storage. Illuminated shelves give the owners’ collection a place of its own. In the kitchen, the laundry appliances have a dedicated bay, while closed cabinetry sits above and below the worktop.

The same planning continues into the bedrooms: a low cabinet beside a raised sleeping platform, and a dressing table opposite the wardrobes.

Before planning your carpentry, decide what you want to see, what you want to put away, and what needs to stay within reach.

Save this for your renovation discussion.

Elegant, warm, and unmistakably lived-in ✨

This Amber Gardens condo balances polish with comfort. The kitchen runs in glossy white cabinetry against a warm wood countertop, pendant lights hanging low over the island where cluster lighting does most of the visual work. It opens straight into a rich walnut-toned dining area, black-and-gold pendants adding a touch of formality. The living room stretches out in soft beige upholstery and a patterned rug, with decorative pieces that give the space real character rather than a showroom feel. The ensuite goes all in on relaxation with a deep soaking tub alongside a glass-enclosed rain shower and dual vanity, while the bedroom finishes things off in warm timber tones with soft floral linens — a calm, personal note to end the tour on.

A wood-clad TV wall that ties the whole home together 🌳

This Tampines BTO was designed for a family that actually gathers in the living room. A warm timber-veneer feature wall anchors the space, with a round dining table and rattan-back chairs pulled up close by for easy weeknight meals rather than a formal dining corner tucked away. The kitchen slides open behind full-height glass doors, marble-look counters catching the light from the window. There's a small reading nook off to the side with a playful zigzag pendant light overhead, and a cat tree tucked into the living room corner — a nice reminder that this home was planned around real daily life, pets included. The main bedroom takes a softer turn, dressed in a warm terracotta wall that feels distinctly personal against the rest of the home's lighter palette.
