When ETFE tells a story: At Te Awa, the roof reflects the culture of the region.

With 3,020 m² of ETFE foil, we enclosed the Te Awa mall at The BASE shopping centre in Hamilton, designed by Architects. What makes this project unique is the custom print on the top foil layer: the Niho Taniwha (guardian's teeth) motif of the Tainui Group, kaitiaki (guardian) of the commercial assets for the Waikato-Tainui people.

The pattern diffuses natural light into the internal street while giving the centre a distinctive cultural identity. Even the mall's name, "Te Awa" – "the river" – is part of that story.

The centre remained fully operational throughout construction – a genuine logistical challenge our team rose to meet 🌊

We had a great time in Manila: Matthew Penrose delivered his talk on "How ETFE Delivers High Performance, Lightweight, Structurally Efficient and Sustainable Building Envelopes”. Jeffry Centeno took care of interested visitors and explained he details of our ETFE foil system.

We loved the event and had a wonderful time talking to business partners and clients.

Over a decade of ETFE performance in Bandung – and counting 😍

Trans Studio Mall in Bandung has been using a two-layer ETFE canopy to protect its outdoor retail spaces from sun and rain since 2012. That is fourteen years of tropical climate – intense UV, heavy rainfall, heat – and the ETFE continues to perform exactly as designed.

This longevity is one of ETFE's most commercially compelling qualities. The material does not degrade under UV radiation, does not yellow, does not require regular replacement, and can be recycled at end of service life. For a retail operator managing a long-lived asset, these characteristics translate directly into lower lifecycle costs and consistently high performance.

Trans Studio Mall is a quiet reminder that the best sustainable building materials are the ones that simply keep working.

A skylight that makes you look up.

At the Level 4 restaurant in Pacific Place, Hong Kong, an ETFE skylight with a custom ink-splatter design floods the dining space with natural light - and gives guests something genuinely beautiful to contemplate while they eat.

The custom print pattern is unique to this installation: organic, expressive, and impossible to replicate with any other material. ETFE can accept inkjet-printed patterns of any design, which opens up creative possibilities that glass simply cannot match.

The result is a dining environment where the architecture becomes part of the experience. Natural light shifts through the day, the pattern catches the eye, and the space feels alive in a way that artificial lighting alone cannot achieve.

This is ETFE at its most artful.

Throwback to one of our construction sites:

At KCC Mall of General Santos, a printed ETFE atrium roof brings natural daylight into the heart of a retail and leisure destination in one of the Philippines' fastest-growing cities. The printed design balances light and solar control, creating a comfortable indoor environment while maintaining the open, sky-connected feeling that shoppers respond to.

General Santos sits in a region that experiences significant sun intensity year-round. Getting the solar control right is not optional, it directly determines whether the mall's central spaces are inviting or uncomfortable. ETFE's printability gives the design team precise control over that balance.

Projects like this show that ETFE is no longer an exclusive material for iconic buildings in major cities; it is the right technical solution for retail developments across the Asia Pacific region.

A fully enclosed stadium with a natural grass pitch. That is not a contradiction, it is ETFE!

Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, New Zealand is the world's first fully enclosed stadium with a natural turf playing surface. The achievement is made possible by the ETFE roof, which transmits the wavelengths of sunlight that grass needs to grow; something that conventional roofing cannot do.

The result is a venue that combines the fan experience of a fully covered, weather-protected stadium with a genuine natural turf surface. For a rugby-mad city like Dunedin, where weather can be severe, this is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade for players and spectators alike.

ETFE's light-transmission properties are well understood in architecture. Forsyth Barr Stadium shows what happens when you push that capability to its logical conclusion.

Our maintenance crew at Terminal 2 at Mactan-Cebu International Airport!

The 3,600 m² ETFE canopy welcomes arriving passengers in the Philippines' second busiest gateway. The canopy is lightweight, transparent and specifically engineered for the tropical climate of the Visayas: intense sun, high humidity and the seasonal threat of typhoons.

ETFE's self-cleaning surface and resistance to UV degradation make it well-suited to airport applications, where performance standards must remain consistently high and maintenance access is limited. Over years of continuous operation, the canopy continues to deliver the same quality of light and shelter as at commissioning 😍

For an airport that connects the Philippines to the world, that reliability matters.

At Ocean Park Water World in Hong Kong, 3,000 m² of ETFE skylight systems allow the venue to operate as a true all-season destination. The lightweight ETFE roof keeps the resort environment protected from typhoons and heavy rain, while maximising the daylight that makes a water park experience feel alive and vibrant 😎

Hong Kong's climate is one of the most demanding in Asia Pacific: intense summer heat, significant rainfall and the occasional typhoon. ETFE handles all of this with exceptional resilience, and its resistance to environmental degradation means the skylight will perform to the same standard a decade from now as it does today.

Designed by AEDAS, the project is a compelling example of how ETFE enables large-scale leisure and hospitality architecture in challenging climates.
