The map is not the territory.
The flag is not the land.
When we name a place, a country, a continent, what are we actually talking about? A story? Or the minerals, the water, the ants, the beetles and the fungi?
Would the place still be the place without them?
We fight over symbols: flags, logos, currencies, borders, team colours. We’d bleed for a piece of cloth while the ground under it turns to dust.
That’s the problem. When the symbol becomes more real to us than life itself, we manage the land for the symbol. For the spreadsheet, the yield figure, the tidy lawn, the quarterly number. And the soil starves.
Money is a story about claims on energy. Photosynthesis is the energy.
Soil comes back when we separate the symbol from the life. When we stop feeding the story and start feeding the system: roots, fungi, microbes, carbon. It doesn’t need our belief. It needs us to stop confusing the two.
Look down first. Then pick your side.
