A hobby gardener taking tentative steps into growing cut flowers and floral arrangements.

The flowers that are used in my arrangements are grown in my own garden or sourced locally.

Yes I work outside
Yes I’m working with plants
BUT sometimes you have to take a step back and just be in the nature

I love gardening and growing my flowers but now and again you need to get back to basics and just be.

A day in the woods has recharged my mojo and I’m good to go

Why can I be so sure that these seeds will germinate

They have come from my garden and I know that the parent plant grew and thrived here. Which probably means that those seeds will also do the same

Those parent plants are also grown from self seeded plants (or from a little help from me in the form of direct sowing)

They are easy seeds to sow and grow and don’t need anything special

I will probably be professional and sow some into individual pots as well as winter sowing but these will do for today

I’m a little bit happy with the results from my botanical bas relief

There are still problems that need ironing out like the air bubbles and plaster consistency. I’m on the lookout for a workshop to attend but for now it’s YouTube and trial and error

My cousins marriage might not have made it to 25 years but my bridesmaids gift is still going strong

And the award to the World worst plant mum is yours truly

I made the snail roll to show different ways to grow plants for Malmö Garden Show and guess what I forgot about it. I only found it yesterday when I was tidying up

So this snail roll has 3 snack peppers growing and flowering in the tiniest amount of soil and no love

Should I pot them on or let them live the rest of their days in a sleeping bag

I’m obsessed with this daisy cutter so much so I’ve used kilo of air day clay “faffing”

I’m 50/50 if the daisy cut out plate will survive coming away from the plastic

And my next dilemma is do I paint them white or add colour…..

🕸️ 🎃 👻 🎃 👻 🎃 👻 🎃 🕸️

The vine needed a haircut or else our grapes wouldn’t ripen so in true Sown and Grown fashion I didn’t let the vines go on the compost

Instead I’ve twisted them into a Halloween wreath base.

Now I have to wait a month or so before I can add the final touches

The balcony was looking a mess
The tomatoes had finished, the dahlias were struggling and I was looking for something new

It had been in my head for a while that I wanted a jungle inspired balcony and there were a few thing that that said go for it
🪴 The Fatsia japonica, hostas and Juncus conglomeratus had all been surviving in full sun so I knew they would work on the balcony
🪴 I rescued the hardy yucca out of a skip which I’m hoping had enough of a root ball to keep it alive
🪴I treated myself to 2 Zantedeschias I’m not sure if they are the hardy variety but I’ll overwinter them

So 6 Fatsia, 10 hostas and 3 common rushes later we have the start of my jungle balcony. I can’t wait to see it grow

Sown and Grown by me new wheels

My budget didn’t stretch to a fancy cargo bike but what I did have was an old kids trailer, some leftover pallet from Malmö Garden Show and a helpful husband

No longer am I loaded up like a pack mule I can safely transport plants and flowers around

This will also be perfect for wreath making workshops in the autumn

Now I just have to remember to take it wide when it comes to those corners
