The Göteborg International Organ Academy is a festival, organized by the Göteborg International Organ Academy Association in cooperation with the City of Göteborg and GOArt and the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg. It was created in 1994 to provide a meeting place for everyone interested in the art of the organ to gather together to share and collect new knowledge, to find artistic inspiration and to enjoy great performances on the many instruments in Göteborg. The Academy is unique in bringing together students, teachers, instrument builders, scholars, performers and friends of the organ art to offer them an international forum for dialog and discussion within an inspiring and exciting Scandinavian environment.

FORTBILDNINGSKURS ORGELSPEL

Vill du börja spela orgel eller vidareutveckla ditt orgelspel under höstterminen 2026? Här är din chans!

KURSINFO
Kursen anordnas av Göteborgs internationella orgelakademi (GIOA) och riktar sig både till nybörjare och till yrkesverksamma kyrkomusiker som vill utveckla sitt orgelspel. Den behandlar solistiskt och liturgiskt orgelspel samt improvisation, allt efter studentens förutsättningar och behov. Undervisningen sker genom individuella och gemensamma orgellektioner på måndagar dagtid i Göteborg. I kursen ingår också två inspirationsdagar som förläggs till någon av regionens mer profilerade orglar.

LÄRARE
Lärare under våren är Fredrik Tobin-Dodd, organist och forskare inom GIOA. Terminsavgiften är 6000 kr för 6 individuella orgellektioner à 40 min, 6 gemensamma orgellektioner à 90 min och två inspirationsdagar. Det totala antalet studieplatser är begränsat till 8.

SVERIGES ÄLDSTA PIANO SNART ÅTER SPELBART!
Det närmare 250 år gamla tafelklaveret i Gathenhielmska Huset i Göteborg ska restaureras och åter bli spelbart. Instrumentet, byggt i London 1778, bedöms vara Sveriges äldsta piano och står nu i centrum för ett internationellt forskningsprojekt.

WORKSHOP IN FOCUS: Juan de la Rubia

II-5. Francisco Correa de Arauxo's Tientos (1626)

This morning workshop offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich world of tientos composed exactly 400 years ago by the Spanish master Francisco Correa de Arauxo, focusing on his monumental 1626 collection, Libro de tientos y discursos de música práctica y theórica de órgano intitulado Facultad orgánica. Visiting Göteborg for the first time, renowned organist Juan de la Rubia will lead the instruction at Hagakyrkan at its iconic quarter-comma meantone organ, built in 1992 by the pioneering American organ builder John Brombaugh, providing an inspirational and ideal laboratory for the performance of this magnificent repertoire.

Inspirerande nätverksträff i Kölingared för ORGELVISION VÄST!

Måndag 24 augusti 2026 samlades vi i Kölingareds kyrka kring den fantastiska barockorgeln byggd av Johan Niclas Cahman år 1704. Det blev en otroligt givande och klangrik dag fylld av idéutbyte, framtidsspaningar och ny musik i en historisk miljö.

Under dagen avhandlades bland annat kommande samverkansprojekt i Västra Götalandsregionen, regionkonserter under Göteborgs internationella orgelfestival, hur vi utvecklar nya arenor och format för orgelkonsten i regionen, kommande inspelningar, orgelsafarier och mycket annat i orgelkonstens tjänst.

Medverkade gjorde Anders Börjesson (Mariestad), Árpád Solti (Borås), Ann-Katrine Johansson (Ulricehamn), Gustaf Johansson (Varnhem), Hans Davidsson (Göteborg), Jon Liinason (Göteborg), Louise Jansson (Borås), Ruth Lindholm (Ulricehamn), Stefan Klaverdal (gästande kompositör från Skåne) och Sven Åke Svensson (Munkedal).

Ett varmt tack till alla medverkande för ert stora engagemang och för att ni bidrar till att ge nytt liv åt vårt västsvenska orgelarv.

Orgelvision väst genomförs av Göteborgs internationella orgelakademi tack vare ett kulturstrategiskt utvecklingsstöd från Västra Götalandsregionens kulturnämnd och syftar till att levandegöra orgelkulturarvet och sprida kunskap om orgeln och dess musik. Projektet omfattar inspirationsdagar, konserter och aktiviteter för barn och unga och genomförs i samarbete med våra orgelnoder i regionen.

In this workshop, the doyen of the harmonium offers a closer look on roots of French 19th century organ performance and how the orgue expressif brought about a revolution in the world of sound and organ playing. An introduction to the Harmonium and the fascination with expression, timbre and dynamics. The repertoire focuses on the first half of the 19th century: methods and works by Boëly, Neukomm, Lefébure-Wely at an original period instrument.

In this workshop you get the opportunity to explore works by Johann Sebastian Bach with one of the leading concert organists of our time at the largest reconstructed Söderling organ in Gothenburg and West Sweden with its roots in the central German 18th-century organ building culture.

SCHIÖRLINAKADEMIN 2026 ÄR NU AVSLUTAD!

Under dagarna 9–12 augusti har intensiv undervisning, workshops och fantastiska musikupplevelser ägt rum med fokus på Pehr Schiörlins (1736–1815) unika 1700-talsorglar i Östergötland.

Deltagarna Momoko, Allan, Jan Oscar, Sara och Andrzej har fördjupat sig i repertoar av bland andra Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Ludwig Krebs och Felix Mendelssohn.

Programmet har bjudit på workshops på orgel och i psalmspel, improvisation och generalbas, samt enskild övning på klavikord och en uppskattad deltagarkonsert.

Ett stort tack till våra lärare Hans Davidsson, David Löfgren och Camille Bloche, samt till alla engagerade deltagare som fyllt dagarna med musik och kunskapsutbyte.

Under akademins gång har deltagarna fått öva och spela på den historiska Schiörlinorgeln i Gammalkils kyrka (1806).

Schiörlinakademin arrangeras av Göteborgs internationella orgelakademi i samarbete med Linköpings stift samt församlingarna i Slaka-Nykil och Vikingstad.

Tack till alla som bidragit till att göra årets akademi så lyckad och inspirerande!

Discover a wealth of appealing repertoire in this morning workshop devoted to shorter organ works by Elfrida Andrée, Florence Price, Margaret Sandresky, and Jeanne Demessieux. Drawing on a newly published edition of Andrée's organ music and selected works by the other composers, the session highlights pieces that combine musical substance with practical performance value. Whether for worship, teaching, or concert use, these works offer rewarding additions to the organist's repertoire.
