🧱 HOW TO CALCULATE THE QUANTITY OF BLOCKS FOR A WALL
Accurately estimating the number of blocks required for a project helps prevent material shortages, reduce material wastage, and improve cost planning before construction begins.
📌 STEP 1: CALCULATE THE TOTAL WALL AREA
Wall Length = 9.0 m
Wall Height = 2.8 m
Wall Area = Length × Height
= 9.0 × 2.8
= 25.20 m²
✅ Total Wall Area = 25.20 m²
🚪 STEP 2: CALCULATE THE AREA OF OPENINGS
Door Opening:
Door Size = 0.9 m × 2.1 m
Door Area = 0.9 × 2.1
= 1.89 m²
Window Opening:
Window Size = 1.2 m × 1.2 m
Window Area = 1.2 × 1.2
= 1.44 m²
Total Opening Area:
= 1.89 + 1.44
= 3.33 m²
✅ Total Opening Area = 3.33 m²
🧱 STEP 3: CALCULATE THE NET WALL AREA
Net Wall Area = Total Wall Area − Total Opening Area
= 25.20 − 3.33
= 21.87 m²
✅ Net Wall Area = 21.87 m²
📏 STEP 4: CALCULATE THE FACE AREA OF ONE BLOCK
Assuming a standard 450 mm sandcrete block with mortar joints:
Modular Block Size = 500 mm × 275 mm
= 0.50 m × 0.275 m
Block Face Area = 0.50 × 0.275
= 0.1375 m²
✅ Area Covered by One Block = 0.1375 m²
🏗️ STEP 5: CALCULATE THE TOTAL NUMBER OF BLOCKS
Number of Blocks = Net Wall Area ÷ Block Face Area
= 21.87 ÷ 0.1375
= 159.05 Blocks
✅ Estimated Number of Blocks Required = 159 Blocks
For practical site estimation, it is advisable to add an additional 5–10% allowance for breakages, cutting, transportation damage, and construction wastage.
5% Allowance:
159 + 8 ≈ 167 Blocks
10% Allowance:
159 + 16 ≈ 175 Blocks
✅ Recommended Quantity to Order:
Approximately 170–175 Blocks
