Our winning proposal for Alber Holding Development’s mixed-use competition in Timișoara.

Our proposed solution is based on the overlay and reinterpretation of various urban development periods in the city of Timișoara and addresses the accessibility issues of the neighborhood located to the west of the site. In this regard, the solution suggests creating a strong pedestrian connection that diagonally crosses the site, a direction also proposed in the urban fabric expansion plan from 1912. Additionally, taking into account the urban typology of the area, which facilitates adequate lighting for residential purposes, the solution proposes three elongated building blocks oriented east-west and a tower building. By overlaying the previously mentioned pedestrian circulation direction, we achieve four residential blocks and a fifth block designated for hotel use, whose configuration and position mark the corner of the site and access within the complex.

The relationship with the surrounding residential buildings is established both by adjusting the heights of the proposed blocks to create a gradient from the boulevard toward the neighborhood of houses at the back, and formally, by dematerializing the facades proposed for each volume.

Regarding the ground floors of the buildings and the connecting structures between them, commercial functions are proposed to support the pedestrian pathways, with terraces designed for and opened to the residents of the complex.

The public space is centered around a water feature, which highlights the historical presence of waterways on the studied site. Additionally, the design represents a mix of mineral and vegetation, emphasizing green spaces that extend toward the nearby residential blocks, creating recreation areas and play spaces for the entire community.

Randare vs realitate

RO: Povestea acestui proiect a început odată cu câștigarea unui concurs de arhitectură, care a generat o colaborare pe termen lung ce ridică problema locuirii colective într-un ansamblu rezidențial aflat în zona centrală a orașului Timișoara.

Conceptul nostru vizează mai multe paliere, de la conceperea unei volumetrii care să genereze o serie de spații exterioare primitoare, deschise către comunitate, la conturarea unor spații interioare de calitate, cu o bună iluminare.

Cele 4 corpuri de clădire (M8-M12) compun un ansamblu format dintr-un soclu înalt – suport, a cărui orientare dinamică rupe monotonia liniarității străzii principale și crează spații publice ferite de aglomerația urbană, și patru volume așezate pe această bază, care accentuează dinamica volumetrică.

EN: The story of this project began with winning an architecture competition, which led to a long-term collaboration addressing the issue of collective housing in a residential complex located in the central area of Timișoara.

Our concept targets multiple levels, from designing a volumetry that generates a series of welcoming outdoor spaces open to the community, to creating quality indoor spaces with good lighting.

The 4 building units (M8-M12) compose a complex formed by a high pedestal – a support whose dynamic orientation breaks the monotony of the main street’s linearity and creates public spaces shielded from urban congestion, and four volumes placed on this base, which enhance the volumetric dynamics.

Situată în Dumbrăvița, Casa CN găzduiește două familii. Scopul proiectului a fost de a crea o arhitectură simplă, dar elegantă, unde intimitatea și lumina sunt elemente cheie.
Spațiul interior a fost proiectat în jurul a două teme principale: scara și conexiunea cu exteriorul. Designul scării este evidențiat de iluminatul zenital pe timpul zilei și de lămpile adiacente pe timpul nopții.
Conexiunea cu grădina este realizată prin deschideri mari și ferestre de tip bowindow plasate strategic.

Located in Dumbrăvița, House CN accommodates two families. The aim of the project was to create simple, yet elegant architecture, where intimacy and light are key elements.
The interior space was designed around two main themes: the staircase and the connection with the exterior. The design of the staircase is highlighted by zenithal lighting during the day and adjacent lamps at night.
The connection with the garden is achieved through large openings and strategically placed bay windows.
