Gândurile noastre se îndreaptă către comunitățile din Japonia afectate de cutremurul puternic produs în regiunea Kyushu. În aceste momente, în care operațiunile de salvare continuă, suntem alături de victime, de familiile lor și de toți cei implicați în intervențiile de urgență.

Un cutremur nu poate fi împiedicat, însă consecințele sale pot fi limitate. Printr-o proiectare atentă, clădirile, podurile și celelalte componente ale infrastructurii pot fi concepute astfel încât să protejeze vieți, să evite prăbușirile și să permită comunităților să continue să funcționeze după un asemenea eveniment.

Aceasta este responsabilitatea fundamentală a ingineriei structurale și seismice: să transforme cunoașterea, calculele și experiența acumulată în clădiri și infrastructură capabile să facă față unor evenimente extreme. În spatele fiecărei construcții sigure se află decizii inginerești care, într-un moment critic, pot face diferența.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the powerful earthquake in Japan’s Kyushu region; those who have lost loved ones, those awaiting news, and the emergency personnel working through extremely difficult conditions.

Earthquakes remind us that resilience is not defined only by whether a structure remains standing. It is also measured by the ability of hospitals to remain operational, transportation and communication networks to support emergency response, and communities to recover with safety and dignity. For the earthquake; engineering community, events such as this reinforce a shared responsibility: to keep advancing research, design standards and professional practice so that buildings and critical infrastructure perform as intended when they are needed most.

Engineering cannot prevent an earthquake, but it can reduce its consequences, protect lives and strengthen the capacity of communities to recover. We stand in solidarity with the people of Japan and with the engineers, researchers, first responders and public authorities supporting the response and recovery effort.

LOCUL 2, cu capul sus! 🥈💚 La EERI Seismic Design Competition, la Portland!

Într-un an cu multe provocări, studenții noștri au urcat din nou pe podium — și nu am putea fi mai mândri de ei. Nouă luni de muncă, o prezentare impecabilă a lui Mada, Modi și Andrei și o machetă, „Semiramis Gardens”, care a rezistat pe masa vibrantă.

E al 16-lea an în care reprezentăm Universitatea Tehnică din Cluj-Napoca la această competiție. Le mulțumim advisorilor, profesorilor, sponsorilor și tuturor celor care ne-au fost alături. Acest rezultat este al întregii echipe! 💚🇷🇴

In a year full of challenges, our students are back on the podium — and we couldn’t be prouder of them. Nine months of work, a flawless presentation by Mada, Modi and Andrei, and a model, “Semiramis Gardens,” that held on the shake table.

This is our 16th year representing the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca at this competition. Thank you to our advisors, professors, sponsors, and everyone who stood by us. This result belongs to the whole team! 💚🇷🇴

Testul s-a încheiat cu bine! ⚡️💚 Structura noastră, Semiramis Gardens, a confirmat predicțiile din etapa de proiectare — dovada acurateței analizelor și a muncii din ultimele luni. Suntem plini de bucurie și așteptăm cu nerăbdare anunțarea clasamentului final!

Felicitări întregii echipe: Andrei Pop – căpitanul echipei, Teodora Bida, Timeia Grec, Módi Tamás, Patrick Petruța, Mădălina Pop, Ştefania Rus, Cătălin Şutu, Radu Țopa, Alin Vieru, Ádám Vörös. Fără implicarea, munca și dedicarea fiecăruia dintre voi, acest rezultat nu ar fi fost posibil. 💚

Felicitări, Madalina, Modi și Andrei, pentru o prezentare excelentă! 👏 Ați reprezentat cu profesionalism, dedicare și încredere rezultatul celor nouă luni de muncă și implicare ale întregii echipe.

Ziua a doua a fost un nou pas înainte: proiectul nostru, Semiramis Gardens, și-a spus povestea într-o sală plină, iar energia publicului ne-a motivat și mai mult. Aplauzele de la final — în clipul atașat. 💚

Am ajuns la jumătatea acestei experiențe extraordinare. În fața noastră a rămas o singură provocare: testul pe masa vibrantă. Mâine, 16 iulie, între 10:45–12:45 ora Portlandului (20:45–22:45 ora României), suntem a 7-a echipă din sesiunea 2 — și puteți urmări totul live pe canalul de YouTube EERI (link în comentarii).

Prima zi de competiție s-a încheiat cu succes! 💚

Am finalizat amenajarea standului, iar macheta și toate componentele proiectului sunt pregătite pentru evaluare.

A fost o bucurie să cunoaștem și să schimbăm idei cu echipe din întreaga lume, reprezentând cu mândrie Universitatea Tehnica din Cluj-Napoca.

Ne bucurăm, de asemenea, să împărțim această experiență alături de colegii noștri de la Universitatea Tehnică de Construcții București - UTCB, reprezentând împreună România în cadrul uneia dintre cele mai prestigioase competiții internaționale dedicate ingineriei seismice. 🇷🇴

Acum ne concentrăm pe următoarea etapă: prezentarea proiectului nostru, programată mâine între 11:00 și 12:45 PDT (ora locală), respectiv 21:00 și 22:45 EEST (ora României).

Suntem pregătiți, motivați și nerăbdători să dăm tot ce avem mai bun!

It has been a pleasure meeting and exchanging ideas with teams from all over the world while proudly representing the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.

We’re also delighted to share this experience with our colleagues from Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, proudly representing Romania together at one of the world’s leading seismic engineering competitions. 🇷🇴
