UTCN SDC The official page of the Seismic Design Competition Team of Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The competition is held during the U.S.

The page serves as a direct link between the Seismic Design Competition Team of Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and anyone who is interested in the progress and results of the team. About the competition:

EERI (Earthquake Engineering Research Institute) has a student chapter in 29 colleges to further promote interest in earthquake engineering. A few representatives from each chapter make up the Student Leadership Council (SLC). Since 2004 the EERI and SLC have held the Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition, which was previously run by the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER). National Conference on Earthquake Engineering and the EERI Annual Meeting. In this competition a team of undergraduate college students must design and construct a structure made of balsa wood. The structure is limited by many rules, such as a weight limit, the individual heights of each floor, total height limit, and more. The structure is subjected to extra weight and placed on a shake table, which moves to simulate an earthquake. An accelerometer is placed on top of the building to measure how fast the top of the building shakes. Students’ structures are judged on a number of criteria, including the height of the structure, number of floors, rentable floor area, the accelerometer readings, and whether the structure breaks.

Mulțumim FAST: Festival for Architecture Schools of Tomorrow și Facultatea de Arhitectura si Urbanism Cluj-Napoca pentru oportunitatea de a face proiectul nostru vizibil în cadrul festivalului și pentru susținerea inițiativelor care încurajează tinerii să exploreze noi perspective la intersecția dintre arhitectură și inginerie.

Prima etapă s-a încheiat, iar acum urmează trei săptămâni intense, pline de provocări și entuziasm. În această perioadă vom evalua cunoștințele, abilitățile și spiritul de echipă, căutând ambiția care face cu adevărat diferența. 💪

La finalul acestui parcurs vom selecta echipa care va reprezenta cu mândrie UTCN la Seismic Design Competition 2027. Prindeți valul și dați tot ce aveți mai bun! 🌟

The first stage is officially a wrap, and now we begin three intense weeks filled with challenges and excitement. During this time, we will assess the candidates' knowledge, skills, and teamwork, looking for the drive that truly makes a difference. 💪

🚨 Update important pentru SDC 2027! 📅

La Info Session-ul de luni v-am spus că SDC 2027 va fi în iunie. Organizatorii de la EERI SLC au anunțat însă o schimbare: competiția se va desfășura în perioada 23–26 martie 2027, la University of Washington, în Seattle, SUA! 🌍

Data s-a schimbat, provocarea rămâne aceeași: cel mai bun turn de pe masa vibrantă. 🏗️
Înscrierile sunt în continuare deschise până sâmbătă 10.10.2026, ora 23:59, vă așteptăm! ✨💪

At Monday's Info Session we told you SDC 2027 would be in June. The EERI SLC organizers have now announced a change: the competition will take place March 23–26, 2027, at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA! 🌍

The date has changed, the challenge stays the same: the best tower on the shake table. 🏗️
Registrations are still open until Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:59 PM. We can't wait to see you! ✨💪

A fost o ocazie minunată să interacționăm cu oameni curioși, să le povestim despre proiectul nostru, despre experiența din cadrul competiției și despre pasiunea care ne motivează să construim și să învățăm împreună. 🏗️
