CABINABETA is at the same time an inversed quote of Aldo Rossi, aiming to bring the
domestic language into the public realm, inviting people to assume their outdoor common territory as
they do with their indoor private ones. It’s an open border checkpoint that could become a facilitator for
a neighbourhood network and the management of their shared resources and rituals.
It’s the frontier that could look inwards, turning itself into what Robert Frost would call a ‘mending wall’:

(…)
And on a day we meet to walk the line
And set the wall between us once again.
(…)
Oh, just another kind of out-door game,
One on a side. It comes to little more:
There where it is we do not need the wall:
He is all pine and I am apple orchard.
My apple trees will never get across
And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.
He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors’.
Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder
If I could put a notion in his head:
‘Why do they make good neighbors?
Isn’t it Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.
Before I built a wall I’d ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offense.
Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,
That wants it down’. I could say ‘Elves’ to him.

CABINABETA unfolds as a magician box. When it opens its doors, the nation enlivens its two regions,
when it is closed, it disappears. It contains the essence of the possible commons of the nearby
inhabitants which spreads around the two courtyards when the cabin breathes out. It’s a free space that
can be used and activated as a domestic common storage, a festival folly, a condensed gallery, a
speaker’s corner, a confessional, a karaoke booth, a changing room, a tiny wine bar, a flower kiosk, or as
a one person haircut studio.

curated by and

In between two blind walls, there is a tight path, a breath of air imposed by an urban planning regulation withdrawal. This narrow stripe slowly advances from the street to a private courtyard behind the common walls of a flower shop, an art gallery, a wine shop, and a hairdresser. You could easily wonder if this is an outer space, a pause between two buildings or if it’s an inner one, an extra layer of air into a very thick shared wall. This undecided space opens the territory of a micronation: CABINABETA.

CABINABETA is a potential secret land of a neighbourhood, an expanded bordernation that calls out to its neighbours to transgress it and inhabit it. It has two entrances and two regions: a gallery and a
triangular piazza. The crosspoint is the government tower, the Cabina BETA itself, a democratic space for
its citizens and their commons.

'Celebrating 100 Women in architecture

Over the past decade, awareness of the need for gender balance in architecture has gained traction. Within the profession, women remain underrepresented, underpromoted and underpaid. In this latest publication from RIBA, women’s contribution to the built environment is rightly acknowledged and celebrated. 100 Women: Architects in Practice is a rich, diverse, and fascinating survey of exceptional women architects from around the world.

100 Women: Architects in Practice is scheduled for release on 1st January 2024. Pre-order your copy from RIBA Books: https://www.ribabooks.com/.'

Many thanks to:
