''OFF-SITE: Don’t Put The Cart Before The Horse!
Over my 30 years in both the European and US, automated off site industry, I have seen many of the same mistakes repeated time after time.
The most common mistake, is thinking that advanced automation will simply work, out of the box and do everything that needs to be done.
In reality, nothing could be further from the truth, because the most advanced automation, on the planet, will only do what it’s told to do.
Remember that, it will only do what it’s told to do, which is a factor of the experience and knowledge of the technical team and the sophistication and capability of the software and the capability and functionality of the equipment.
So the real key, is investing in your design and engineering processes and software and making it as efficient as possible, as it is the key to productivity on the factory floor and on assembly at the jobsite. That’s why it’s called Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA)
All the fancy advanced automation in the world still needs human input and that human input along with the correct software is of paramount importance.
Getting your software selected and customized and training the design and engineering technicians, is job number 1.
This subject is too great and too important, to discuss in a short “Linked In” post, but take it from someone who has been investing in BIM software and advanced manufacturing automation for 30 years, in the off site industry, it is critical to success.''
