I’ve noticed that this FB Account has had over 200 viewings in recent weeks. This may be because I have recently sold the property and people are wondering whether the club will reopen. There have even been a couple of occasions when bowlers have turned up, hoping to bowl! Unfortunately, I have to tell you all that the purchasers have no plans to reopen, so the club is now closed permanently, and the property is private, so please do not visit.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank, one final time, those who have supported and expressed an interest in the club. 🙂

Hello everyone. I’m sorry I haven’t posted for such a long time but I was constantly hoping that I would be able to give you all some good news and I wanted to wait until it was definite. Unfortunately it’s not, and, as the page still gets lots of views and likes, I believe that those interested deserve an update.

As many of you will recall, the club closed in September 2020 when (almost) all of the touring teams booked for that year (apart from two) and for Spring 2021 had been forced to cancel because of COVID.
In January 2021 I had what I thought was a serious enquiry and that progressed (on and off) until last month when it fell through. ☹️

Despite the club being closed, I continued to maintain the Green to a reasonable standard but that takes time and costs money so I cannot do it forever. I have to accept that it is unlikely that the club will reopen and am now advertising the property for sale as “residential with a number of potential uses”.

It is a shame to lose another Green in the Algarve but it’s been a great adventure which I thoroughly enjoyed and I met many wonderful people as a result. I would like to thank everyone who visited and/or supported me. I will treasure the memories and hope to see many of you on another Green in the future.

As many of you will know, the Club closed last September (2020), having lost 44 of the 46 visiting groups booked for the year. Spring this year is also looking very doubtful for “bowling in the sun” so I’m sure everyone has their fingers crossed for the autumn 🙂.

Hello to all bowlers. You will probably realise that the Club is currently closed. But we are not resting - we are taking the opportunity to undertake extra work on the Green that would otherwise not be possible at this time of the year! In the past week or so, we have applied moss killer and fungicide, verticut deeply, mowed and spiked, applied a layer of sand, and finally some fertiliser. Rain is forecast for the next 3 days, which will allow us (and the Green) to rest. By the time you visit us (again), the Green will be even better that it has been. Let’s hope that’s sooner, rather than later.

I would like to say “Hello and Thank You” to the two Groups that visited us this Spring, before Coronavirus “took hold”: Argyle Bowls Club from Bournemouth (2 photos below) and The Seddon Group (who I’m sorry I didn’t see this time as I was delayed in the UK). 🙂
I would also like to say “Hello” to the Groups who were due to visit us in March but were not able to do so: Hunstanton, Betteshanger, Roger Simms’ friends and family, Crediton, Geddington & Newton, White Hall, Personal Touch Touring Week, Castle Cary, Cornish Travellers, Imber Court and Sellindge. ☹️
I realise that bowling has been badly hit (along with many other things) but the most important thing is that you stay positive and stay safe!
To all Groups and Clubs: We would love to see you in sunny Portugal at some time in the future and assure you of a very warm welcome.

Unfortunately we have had to close because of the Coronavirus. It’s only temporary, the Green will be maintained in its usual magnificent condition and we will be able to welcome you all some time in the future. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy 🙂.
