Há edifícios que fazem parte da identidade de uma cidade.

No centro histórico de Ponta Delgada, a reabilitação da Farmácia Popular Ponta Delgada partiu de uma ideia simples: preservar o que o edifício já tinha de bom, respeitar a sua memória e prolongar a sua vida.

Na SO, acreditamos que a boa arquitetura deve atravessar o tempo e que reabilitar é também saber reconhecer o valor do que já existe.

Este é um projeto de que temos muito orgulho.

Um agradecimento especial à Dra.Isabel pela confiança depositada em nós e à pelo papel fundamental numa intervenção exigente e muito especial.

Some buildings are part of a city’s identity.

In the historic centre of Ponta Delgada, the rehabilitation of Farmácia Popular began with a simple idea: preserve what was already valuable, respect its memory and extend its life.

At SO, we believe good architecture should stand the test of time and that rehabilitation is also about recognising the value of what already exists.

This is a project we are very proud of.

A special thank you to Dr. Isabel for trusting us and to Easy Build for their fundamental role in such a demanding and special intervention.

Entre projetos, prazos e o ritmo diário do atelier, fomos adiando o seu lançamento — porque, antes de mostrar, temos estado concentrados em fazer.

Agora chegou o momento.

Esta série foi pensada para dar a conhecer melhor a SO: os projetos que nos marcam, os processos por detrás de cada decisão, o dia a dia do atelier e, acima de tudo, a nossa equipa e a forma como trabalhamos.

Ao longo dos próximos dois anos, iremos partilhar diferentes episódios, acompanhando projetos e histórias que fazem parte do nosso percurso.

We have been wanting to share this project for some time.

Between projects, deadlines and the daily rhythm of the studio, we kept postponing its release — because, before showing our work, we have been focused on creating it.

Now the time has come.

This series was created to offer a closer look at SO: the projects that are especially meaningful to us, the processes behind each decision, the studio’s daily life and, above all, our team and the way we work.

Over the next two years, we will be sharing a series of episodes featuring the projects and stories that form part of our journey.

A Mini Atalhada começou com apenas 13 m².

Um espaço mínimo. Um desafio gigante. E um projeto muito especial para a .

Entre arquitetura, detalhe, luz e matéria, transformámos uma pequena construção existente num exercício sobre como viver com menos espaço, mas com mais intenção.

É pequeno na escala. Mas enorme naquilo que nos permitiu explorar.

Reabilitar uma casa num porto de pesca é compreender a memória do lugar e respeitar a autenticidade da sua arquitetura.
Na Casa do Porto, procurámos preservar a identidade do edifício existente, mantendo a sua volumetria original e a essência dos espaços, tão característica desta tipologia ligada ao universo portuário e marítimo.
Mais do que transformar, quisemos reabilitar com sensibilidade, valorizando o que já existia e adaptando-o a uma nova forma de habitar, sem perder a ligação à sua história e ao contexto onde se insere.

Rehabilitating a house in a fishing harbour is about understanding the memory of the place and respecting the authenticity of its architecture.
At Casa do Porto, we sought to preserve the identity of the existing building, maintaining its original volume and the essence of its spaces, so characteristic of this typology linked to the harbour and maritime world.
More than simply transforming it, we aimed to rehabilitate it with sensitivity, valuing what was already there and adapting it to a new way of living, without losing its connection to its history and surroundings.

o projeto explora a relação entre arquitetura e natureza, onde a casa e a estrutura destinada ao crescimento de novas árvores passam a fazer parte de um único conjunto, permitindo que a vegetação evolua e acompanhe o edifício ao longo do tempo.

desde o início, o desafio passou por encontrar soluções construtivas simples e exequíveis, capazes de respeitar o orçamento disponível sem abdicar de um conceito verdadeiramente fora da caixa.

the project explores the relationship between architecture and nature, where the house and the structure dedicated to growing new trees become part of a single composition, allowing vegetation to evolve alongside the building over time.

from the very beginning, the challenge was to develop simple and realistic construction solutions that respected the available budget while remaining true to an unconventional architectural concept.

Uma antiga ruína de pedra dá origem a uma nova habitação contemporânea.

O projeto parte da preservação da volumetria original existente, onde um novo volume em betão e vidro surge de forma simples e assumida, criando um diálogo entre o passado e o presente.

A matéria, a luz e a memória do lugar permanecem como elementos centrais desta intervenção.

An old stone ruin becomes the starting point for a new contemporary home.

The project preserves the original existing volume while introducing a new concrete and glass structure, creating a simple and honest dialogue between past and present.

Apesar de trabalharmos diariamente com algumas das tecnologias mais avançadas do mercado, nomeadamente metodologias BIM, o desenho à mão continua a ocupar um lugar especial no nosso processo criativo.

É muitas vezes no papel que as ideias surgem de forma mais livre, espontânea e intuitiva. Antes dos modelos, dos detalhes construtivos e da coordenação técnica, existe sempre um momento de exploração onde o desenho nos permite pensar sem limites.

Para nós, continua a ser uma das ferramentas mais poderosas da arquitetura.

Although we work daily with some of the most advanced technologies available, including BIM methodologies, hand sketching still holds a special place in our creative process.

It is often on paper that ideas emerge in their most free, spontaneous and intuitive form. Before the models, technical coordination and construction details, there is always a stage of exploration where drawing allows us to think without limits.

For us, it remains one of the most powerful tools in architecture.
