ACO STUDIO | Spaces designed with intention. Architecture, engineering, strategy, and technical oversight. Based in Guimarães. Working across Portugal

Spaces are designed with intention. Projects respond to the present while adapting to the future. Based in Guimarães, ACO STUDIO is a practice working across architecture, engineering, strategy, and technical oversight. Every project is shaped by context, developed with technical rigour, and guided by a clear purpose. We believe architecture should create spaces that endure, respond to change, and establish meaningful relationships between people, place, and time.

The details are what you feel before you notice them.

A wall that curves gently to guide the way. A line of light that follows you down the corridor. A window that brings the garden inside. Small decisions, made with care, that turn a passage into a pleasure.

Every company has its own character. Its space should show it.

In this project for DA Têxteis, identity is part of the design from the very first idea.

Messages on the walls, rooms that stay open to one another, places to meet, to focus, to pause. A workplace where the team can see itself.

A project is finished in a day. A home takes years.

We design for that long life. For the seasons, the changes, the family that grows and the routines that settle in. Architecture that keeps making sense, long after the first photographs are taken.

Some walls were here long before us. They deserve to stay.

This project begins with what the place already holds: an old stone wall, mature trees, a wide view of the hills. The new house was designed to sit alongside them, never in front of them.

A shape we all recognise, made new.

Casa Santo Tirso takes the archetypal form of the Portuguese house and refines it through timber, light, and proportion. The pitched roof and simple silhouette remain, while large openings connect every room to the surrounding forest.

The true measure of a space is not its size.

Scale is felt in the way we move, pause, and inhabit a room. It is shaped by proportion, height, and light working together. Good architecture is understood with the body long before it is measured in numbers.

When every element is balanced, architecture feels effortless.

At VOO, clean forms and precise proportions allow the house to sit lightly on its site. The glazed base opens the ground floor to its surroundings, while the volume above completes a composition defined by clarity and calm.

To restore is not to erase. It is to listen to what was already there.

Villa Kuhn is a reconstruction shaped by respect for the original building. Its symmetry, sloped roof, and rhythm of openings are preserved, while the interior is quietly updated for the way we live today. Comfort evolves, memory remains.

07/09/2026

The most important element of any project is the one that cannot be designed.
Life.

Architecture provides the setting. People give it meaning.

Every project begins with a way of seeing.

THE EYE was conceived to frame the landscape rather than compete with it. Through light, proportion, and carefully composed views, the house creates a continuous dialogue with the horizon, where architecture becomes a way of experiencing the place.
