Wool processing part 2 (but actually the 1st 🙃)

Shearing ✂️🦙
Once a year, usually in the spring, when everything is coming to life again, we prepare ourselves for the shearing process..

Unorthodoxly, I shear my Alpacas on my own.
After many years, I have realized that I prefer to do it the natural way, without electric machines, and to be as attentive as I can to my dear ones.

So..
before I start the shearing, the alpacas need a really good brush, which they like, to remove, bits of leaves and hay stuck in their fleece...because they love to roll in the pastures and get themselves all messy!
Brushing each alpaca can take up to an hour, depending on how much rolling they have been doing 🥳

When their fleece is fluffy and clean, while they are standing, with no force used, I start shearing.
I use old fashioned sheep shearing scissors!
They last longer and are easier to maintain and make no horrible noise like the electric shears.

I shear the girls completely, with some variations on hair styles and leg wear!.. 🤙
they are normally very grateful and keep
still and calm for me.

For the boys, we give them The Lion Cut, 🦁
keeping the long fleece around their necks and back legs so they can keep their manly attitude 😎
And the girls do like a boy with big hair!
