China's solar industry has reached an extraordinary scale, with installed photovoltaic capacity climbing to approximately 1.274 terawatts by the end of June 2026. This puts solar almost level with coal and positions photovoltaic power to become the country's largest source of installed generation capacity in the near term.
The milestone reflects China's continued commitment to expanding renewable electricity. Solar and wind are expected to make up roughly 50% of China's total installed generation capacity, demonstrating the growing importance of renewable energy in powering the country's economy and supporting its long-term clean-energy development.
