Architecture is not always about creating something new. Sometimes, it begins with understanding what already exists.

Located within the historic Civil Hospital Karachi, this project transformed two un-used wards into a contemporary healthcare facility for the Sindh Institute of Advanced Endoscopy and Gastroenterology (SIAG) through a process of conserving, reintegrating, and renovating.

Rather than replacing the building’s history, the intervention worked with it—stabilizing the original structure, revealing concealed stonework, restoring missing architectural elements, and adapting the spaces to meet the evolving needs of specialized healthcare.

The project addressed years of structural deterioration while preserving the character and memory embedded within a hospital that has served the city for over a century. The result is a renewed healthcare environment where heritage and modern medical requirements co-exist, allowing this historic building to continue its legacy of care for generations to come.

Designed for one of Pakistan’s busiest public healthcare institutions, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) OPD responds to a complex brief: a three-level outpatient facility on a triangular site, built to remain comfortable, efficient and welcoming without air conditioning.

The triangular geometry shaped the planning, circulation and movement of thousands of patients and healthcare professionals. A cement block façade acts as a contemporary jali to filter sunlight and allow airflow at the same time.

A large skylight brings daylight deep into the building while allowing warm air to escape, improving cross-ventilation. Even smaller details, like wrapping steel handrails with simple water hose material, were designed to reduce discomfort in everyday use.

The result is a public healthcare facility shaped by practical, people-centered solutions that improve dignity, accessibility and comfort.

This Private Residence in Karachi was all about creating an understated, streamlined home by rethinking everyday materials.

Instead of traditional masonry, we poured the walls in situ. This didn’t just speed up the build, it gave the walls a raw, honest personality that felt so right we skipped the plaster and paint altogether.

Our favorite detail? The roof logic. Rather than hiding the structural technology, we celebrated it. We left the RCC beams exposed and painted them a vibrant bright yellow in the patio area, turning a structural necessity into the home’s signature feature.
