☀️ Learning from Malaysia’s 50 MW Large Scale Solar Plant 🇲🇾🇵🇰
One of the most valuable technical experiences of my journey in Malaysia was visiting the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Large Scale Solar (LSS) Plant. With approximately 79 MWdc / 50 MWac capacity and more than 238,000 solar panels, witnessing a utility-scale solar project of this magnitude was truly impressive.
As an Electrical Engineer from Pakistan working in the renewable-energy sector, I was particularly interested in understanding not only the technical aspects of the plant, but also the planning, project development, grid integration, and investment framework supporting large-scale solar deployment.
The project is part of Malaysia’s Large Scale Solar (LSS) programme, demonstrating how competitive procurement, long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), private investment, and supportive energy policies can contribute to the development of utility-scale renewable energy.
This visit also made me reflect on Pakistan’s enormous solar potential. 🇵🇰☀️
Pakistan has significant opportunities to expand its renewable-energy capacity, particularly through:
🔹 Utility-scale solar PV projects
🔹 Competitive and transparent procurement
🔹 Bankable PPAs and private-sector investment
🔹 Stronger grid infrastructure and integration
🔹 Modern power-system planning
🔹 Greater adoption of clean and sustainable energy
Seeing the Sepang Solar Plant in operation rather than simply studying it on paper gave me a much deeper understanding of what it takes to develop and operate a large-scale solar facility.
For me, this was more than just a site visit, it was an opportunity to learn, observe, exchange knowledge, and bring valuable lessons back to Pakistan. 🇵🇰🤝🇲🇾
Grateful to the everyone who made this technical visit possible.
Experiences like these remind us that the future of energy is not only about generating more power, it is about generating it smarter, cleaner, and more sustainably. ⚡🌱
