โIf Jesus has risen, why do Catholics still put His body on the cross?โ
It is a fair question.
The answer goes to the heart of Catholic faith.

A crucifix is a cross bearing the body of Christ.
Catholics do not believe Jesus is still dead.
We believe He truly died, truly rose from the dead, and lives forever.
But the crucifix keeps the sacrifice of Calvary visibly before our eyes.

The crucifix does not deny the Resurrection.
It tells the complete story.
Christ suffered.
Christ died.
Christ rose.
The crucifix draws our attention to the sacrifice; the empty tomb reminds us of the victory.
Christian faith needs both the Cross and the Resurrection.

The wood is not God.
The metal or plaster figure is not God.
Catholics worship God alone.
When Catholics kneel before or kiss a crucifix, the honor is directed to Christ, not to the material object itself.
The crucifix is a sacred image that directs the mind and heart toward Jesus and His saving sacrifice.

Imagine someone you deeply love sacrificed everything to save your life.
Would remembering the suffering they endured mean that you deny their victory?
Of course not.
Remembering the sacrifice can actually deepen your gratitude.
That is why Catholics keep the crucifix before their eyes.
It reminds us that our salvation was not cheap.
Christ loved us unto death.

When you look at Christ on the Cross, you are reminded:
He forgave.
He obeyed the Father.
He endured suffering.
He loved His enemies.
He gave Himself for sinners.
He did not run away from the Cross.
And then He calls us to follow Him.

Catholics keep Christ on the Cross because they never want to forget the price of our redemption.
We proclaim the Resurrection.
But we also remember the sacrifice that came before the empty tomb.
