A BIM model is not BIM and just a drawing of 3D images

It Becomes a BIM, because of its Geometrical Presentation and the Data Information you put into it

This is where Understanding LOD, LOG and LOI becomes critical.

For A BIM to deliver its real value, the project team needs a clear understanding of model development, geometry, information and the intended use of each deliverable.

In my Ten (10) years in BIM practice, one of the fundamental principles of effective BIM implementation is understanding how LOG (Geometric Development) and LOI/Level of Information Need should progressively support the Project Requirements.

Take note of the word "Progressively", thus comes the LOD stages (LOD Matrix for Architectural Elements, Structural, and MEPF Elements). The important of putting information stage by stage. A healthy way of doing the work, to delivering a healthy 3D Revit Model.

Most common mistake, is to progress in the 3D aspect, delaying the input of Information to the end of the Modeling stage, which is not advisable at all, it can create unnecessary workload, inconsistency, missing data and quality control issues.

Information should be planned and progressively developed according to the Project Information Requirement and Intended use.

Shown in the video is only a sample to show and help understand how the Information is being inputted to the 3D model in each LOD stage.

I hope this can be useful to fellow BIM enthusiast, aspiring BIM Coordinators and BIM Managers, Revit Users and for those who are beginning their BIM journey.
