🏠 You're not simply hiring someone to draw your house.

✔ How do we balance beauty, comfort, function and budget?
✔ How do the technical requirements come together?
And perhaps the most important question:

A well-designed home isn't simply expensive.

💰 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝘅 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁.

Before construction begins, you still have the opportunity to ask:
✔ Is the layout right?
✔ Is the house positioned correctly?
✔ Does the design respond to the site?
✔ Are the spaces right for our lifestyle?
✔ Is the budget realistic?
✔ Have the different systems been coordinated?

Because once the wall is built…
Once the slab is poured…
Once the roof is installed…

☀️🌧️ Sometimes, the smartest architectural feature is also one of the simplest.

A generous roof overhang can provide:
☀️ Solar protection
🌧️ Rain protection
🪟 Window protection
🌡️ Thermal comfort
🏡 More usable outdoor space

And there is something very Filipino about this.
The silong.
The veranda.
The lanai.

The shaded transition between inside and outside.

Today, we can reinterpret these ideas through contemporary architecture.

𝑀𝑜𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑛 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑠.
𝑀𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑒𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑙𝑠.

But still responding to our tropical environment.

𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐍 𝐅𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐎 𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐓 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌.

It can evolve.
It can become contemporary while preserving the wisdom of what worked before.

But natural ventilation isn't simply:

Good design respects the environment entrusted to us.

Floor-to-ceiling glass can create spectacular spaces.

But in a tropical country, we also need to consider:
☀️ Solar heat gain
🌧️ Driving rain
🌬️ Wind exposure
💧 Water intrusion
🔧 Maintenance
🔒 Privacy
🌿 Shading

That's why thoughtful tropical architecture uses elements such as:
𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘀.
𝗟𝗼𝘂𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀.
𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀.
𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.
𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀.
𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

The goal isn't:
❌ “Use less glass.”

It's:
“𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗬.”

Because true luxury isn't simply having more.
It is knowing 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞—𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲.

When designing a home in the Philippines, we shouldn't ask only:
“𝘈𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘺𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢?”

We should also ask:
🌧️ How will rainwater move?
🌬️How is the roof exposed to wind?
☀️How will it deal with heat?
💧 Where will water discharge?
🏗️How will the roofing system coordinate with the structure?

A beautiful roof that performs poorly is not good architecture.

But when:
𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠 + 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 + 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 + 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘
work together—

The roof can become one of the strongest architectural features of the home.

"𝑇ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑙𝑎𝑧𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑟𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑠𝑎𝑔; 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑖𝑑𝑙𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑘𝑠." (Ecclesiastes 10:18)

Before we design your house, we study your property.

Your lot already contains information.

☀️Where does the sun move?
🌬️Where does the wind come from?
🌧️Where does rainwater naturally move?
🌊 Has the area experienced flooding?
🌿 What trees and vegetation exist?
🏘️What surrounds the property?

These questions can influence:
𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀.
𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻.
𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀.

This is why two houses with the same floor area can have completely different designs.

Because:

A good design doesn't force a house into a property.

Every storm leaves us with lessons.

We see damaged roofs.
Flooded spaces.
Broken windows.
Water entering homes.

And we naturally ask: “𝑮𝒂𝒂𝒏𝒐 𝒌𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒌𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒈𝒚𝒐?”

But as Architects, another question matters:

We cannot control the weather.
But we can make better decisions about:
🏠 Site planning
🌬️ Orientation
🌧️ Rain protection
☀️ Solar control
🪟 Openings
🏡 Roof design
💧 Water management
🏗️ Structural coordination

A resilient home doesn't begin with stronger materials alone.
