On August 21, 1983, during one of the darkest chapters of Philippine history under Martial Law, Benigno โNinoyโ Aquino Jr. returned to the Philippines after years of exile, knowing the dangers that awaited him. Moments after stepping off the plane, he was assassinated at the Manila International Airport.
May we always embody the patriotism Ninoy showed until his very last breath, not only by remembering his sacrifice, but by living with the dignity, courage, and love for country that he fought for.
May his sacrifice, and the sacrifices of all our heroes, known and unknown, never be in vain. The freedom and dignity they fought to leave us are not the end of their legacy, but our starting point.
It is now up to us to carry it forward. ๐ต๐ญ
