The Burj Khalifa is not only the tallest building in the world, it is also one of the most challenging buildings on Earth to keep clean.

Standing 828 meters tall in Dubai, the skyscraper's exterior is covered by more than 24,000 glass panels that stretch across an enormous surface area. Maintaining that façade requires a dedicated team of specialists, advanced maintenance equipment, and months of continuous work.

A full exterior cleaning cycle typically takes around three months to complete. Because the building undergoes multiple cleaning cycles each year, crews are almost always working somewhere on the structure. By the time one section has been cleaned, another often needs attention again.

Most of the work is performed using specialized Building Maintenance Units mounted on tracks around the tower. These mechanical systems lower workers down the building's sides, allowing them to access vast sections of glass safely. Higher portions of the spire require specially trained rope-access technicians who descend using safety ropes and professional climbing equipment.

Weather creates additional challenges. Strong winds can halt operations, while Dubai's intense heat requires careful planning and hydration measures for workers.

The result is a nearly nonstop maintenance effort that helps keep one of the world's most recognizable landmarks looking pristine despite constant exposure to dust, heat, and desert conditions.
