Remembering my beloved grand-uncle and mentor Lolo Jerry on his death anniversary.
In commemoration of the 27th death anniversary of National Artist Jeremias Elizalde Navarro.
Jeremias Elizalde Navarro was a painter and sculptor. His hardwood masks intricately fused human and animal forms, while his paintings displayed a blend of abstract elements and figurative representations in both oil and watercolor.
Moreover, his assemblages ingeniously combined found objects with metal parts. Navarro created a series of figurative works inspired by Balinese art and culture, demonstrating his remarkable command of color. Among his notable pieces are ‘Sorry Jesus, I Can’t Attend Christmas This Year’, ‘Homage to Dodjie Laurel’, ‘The Seasons’, and ‘Flying Contraptions for Mr. Icarus’.
