K-Thengono Design Studio's Split Mass Residence is shaped by a massing strategy that negotiates openness and privacy while optimizing light and ventilation.

The ground floor has an L-shaped public volume, which creates a protected outdoor area towards the rear. While the living area remains open to the exterior, the plan gradually shifts from public to private the deeper you move into the home.

A larger, upper volume is split and manipulated to turn circulation into one of the home's major architectural elements. The volume drops downward at the front, strenghtening the connection between the lower and upper volumes. At the rear, the upper volume rises, opening the home to the sky.

The Aedas -designed W Hotel and Marrriot Resort & Spa Phu Quoc aims to welcome guests during APEC 2027. The luxury development on the southern coast of Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam./ will be a hospitality and entertainment anchor in the emerging South Phu Quoc civic and hospitality district.

The project consists of two luxury hotel towers, operated by the Marriott; this includes Vietnam's first W Hotel. The architectural concept draws inspiration from the East Asian legend, the "Odyssey of the Dragon Kings." The design imagines the development as two dragons rising from the coastline, protecting the "pearl" of Phu Quoc Island.

The two hotel towers are articulated with a combination of lightweight glass-reinforced concrete cladding and integrated facade lighting systems. The "pearl" at the center of the project is a grid shell structure clad in dichroic glass, so the surface retracts and shifts color according to changing light conditions.

Vancouver-based Henriquez Partners Architects has had plans approved for a major mixed-use development in the city comprising four towers. Among them is a 1,033-foot structure that would become Western Canada's tallest building and the city's first supertall tower.

Designed for developer Holborn Group, the proposal spans three sites at 501 and 595 West Georgia Street and 388 Abbott Street, connecting Vancouver’s central business district with the Downtown Eastside. More than three million square feet of development would accommodate housing, hotel, retail, conference, cultural, and public uses.

Interesting feature from designboom on the Nakagin Capsule Tower that used to stand in Tokyo's Ginza district.

Designed by Kisho Kurokawa and completed in 1972, the Nakagin Capsule Tower consisted of 140 prefabricated capsules around two reinforced-concrete cores. The tower was considered one of the clearest built expressions of Japanese Metabolism, a postwar architectural movement that imagined buildings and cities as sytems capable of growth and transformation.

The two tower cores rose to 11 and 13 stories, with the capsules projecting outward in irregular arrangements. Each capsule measured around 2.5 by 2.5 by 4 meters and contained about 10 square meters of space.

The capsules were designed to be comfortable habitats for the urban salaryman, someone who would spend the working week in Tokyo without requiring the domestic infrastructure of a conventional home.

The Nakagin's capsule rooms were not meant to last forever; rather they would be replaced roughly every 24 to 35 years. A worn or obsolete capsule could be unbolted from the center towers and exchanged for a new one, while the larger building would continue to operate.

Sadly, the Nakagin proved difficult to maintain and came down in 2022. Twenty-three of the capsules were salvaged and dispersed to other institutions and settings, including Capsule A1305, which is now part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Arup, along with Foster + Partners, designed the new Le Dôme winery in Bordeaux. The project features a circular two-story layout and a domed timber roof.

The 40-meter diameter timber dome roof is supported by sloping beams spanning over a large, column-free space. A 6-meter-wide oculus at the dome's center lets in natural light.

Outside, the roof is clad with recycled local terracotta tiles. The base of the building is partially buried in the ground, reducing the volume's visual impact and making use of the ground's thermal mass.

ZHA's masterplan for Baku Expo City in Azerbaijan will feature building layouts designed to provide protection from the area's harsh winds. ZHA has also announced plans to reserve 80 percent of the area's existing forest cover.

The Baku Expo City masterplan has the Baku Expo Center at its center. There will be a residential area flanking an extension of the center, consisting of one-bedroom flats and family homes. The overlapping, stacked homes will sport green roofs.

The site at Baku is known for strong winds, experiencing both the Khazri wind in winter and the Gilavar wind in summer. The layout of the residences was designed to serve as protective barriers against these winds.

Meanwhile, the residences' green roofs will help reduce cooling energy demand, enhance thermal insulation, and serve as part of the site's rainwater collection system.

The homes will be nestled into an existing pine forest, and around 18,000 trees will be preserved on site. The design also incorporates foresty management and a replanting program.

The masterplan also includes civic institutions and cultural venues, as well as public parks, medical clinics, and sports clubs. The upgraded Bakikhanov-Bina-Gala rail line will connect Baku Expo City to the Baku city centre and airport.

OMA and San Francisco-based Y.A. studio have completed 730 Stanyan, a 160-unit affordable housing development adjacent to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. The project marks OMA’s first completed 100% affordable housing development in the United States.

The eight-story building is divided into volumes responding to the scale of the surrounding neighborhood. Four-storey sections face Haight and Waller Street, while an eight-story central volume is shaped around a series of courtyards and terraces.

The building's massing creates additional corner conditions, allowing apartments to recieve multiple orientations and, in some cases, views toward Golden Gate Park.

The facade is composed of modular glass-fiber reinforced concrete panels, incorporating windows and ventilation louvers. The facade creates a wave-like profile for the development, referencing the rhythms and forms of the surrounding townhouses. The standardized system also reduced installation time and costs.

The ground level features three courtyards designed by GLS Landscape Architecture: a private residential garden, childcare play area, and a gathering space opening towards the park.

Great work from Gensler. For the design of Japanese beauty giant Shiseido's new Parisian offices, they channelled the Japanese art of anticipating needs to create a workplace that was hospitality-driven and open.

The center of the design is The Agora, which is the social and cultural hub of the office. A landscaped terrace inspired by Japanese gardens provides a calm green center - anchored in the brand's heritage - for relaxation and creative brainstorming.

Victoria Gardens, a 147-acre lifestyle center designed by SWA Group in Rancho Cucamonga, Californium echoes the city's prominent position along six major Californian trade routes.

The design combines the best traditions of Western American town centers with the social and planning demands of the early 21st century.

A decade after completing the open-air mall, the owner worked with SWA to refresh a three-block streetscape and plaza along Monet Avenue to maintain desirability.

SWA introduced art interventions, site furnishings, and fountains to update the site. Drought-sensitive plantings, high-efficiency irrigation, and stormwater treatment systems tie into the greater network of native shrubs and groundcovers, enhancing the garden heritage of the project.
