WHEN IS HIRING AN INTERIOR DESIGNER ENOUGH — AND WHEN DO YOU NEED AN ARCHITECT?
Planning a home, café, office, or commercial space?
One of the first questions you might have is:
“Do I need an Interior Designer, an Architect, or both?”
The answer isn’t always one or the other.
It depends on the scope of your project.
An Interior Designer may be enough when your space is already built and you mainly need help with:
• Furniture and décor
• Color palettes and styling
• Material and finish selection
• Curtains, lighting fixtures, and accessories
• Creating a cohesive interior look
But when your project involves changing the space itself, an Architect may be necessary.
For example:
• Changing the floor plan or space layout
• Adding or removing walls and partitions
• Renovating or remodeling
• Designing ceilings and built-in elements
• Coordinating electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems
• Structural changes
• Building permits and code compliance
• Coordinating the overall construction
And sometimes, you may benefit from both.
Because a beautiful interior is only one part of a successful project.
The bigger question is:
“What does my space actually need?”
Before deciding who to hire, understand the scope first.
At Yaoto Architects + Partners, we believe good design should be more than beautiful.
It should be functional, buildable, and beautiful.
So we want to hear from you:
When do you think hiring an Interior Designer is enough?
And when do you think an Architect becomes necessary?
Would you hire an Interior Designer, an Architect, or both for your next project?
👇 Let’s talk about it in the comments.
