The interconnectedness of Development, Environment, and Policies
The mountains of the Central Cebu Protected Landscape (CCPL), seen against the backdrop of the CebuโCordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), reveal the growing vulnerability of our watershed to the uncontrolled urban expansion. Development continues to rise along the mountain peaks, driven by the desire for panoramic views and cooler temperatures. However, nature always finds a way to remind us that unchecked, profit-driven development can bring more harm than good in the long run.
Pushing the boundaries of nature results in costly maintenance of man-made structures and exposes communities to environmental risks. Yet, there is a better path forwardโ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐ง๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐. This approach allows development to integrate with natural ecosystems, where design and construction harmonize with the landscape rather than compete against it.
The CCLEX stands as a stark indicator of urban development surging across Cebu. Meanwhile, the mountain slopes scarred by developments, serve as a sobering reminder of how susceptible our natural environment is to human encroachment.
