We recently completed the structural design and retrofit for a 2-storey home in Alabang. Collaborating with WB Balaoing Jr Engineering Consultancy, we carried out both destructive and non-destructive testing to get an accurate read on the existing structure before engineering our design solution.

Seismic Engineering: Bridging the Gap Between Motion and Design 🌉⚡

How do we ensure a bridge stands tall when the ground beneath it starts to move? It all comes down to the Response Spectrum.

As shown in the graphic, seismic analysis isn't just about the strength of the concrete—it’s about understanding the relationship between ground acceleration and the natural periods of the structure.

The Engineering Breakdown:

🫨 Seismic Input: Converting chaotic ground motion into a predictable time history.
🧬 Modal Analysis: Identifying how the bridge "wants" to move—whether it's transverse bending (Mode 1) or longitudinal displacement (Mode 2).
📈 Spectral Acceleration (Sa): Using the Response Spectrum Graph to find the peak demand for each specific mode.
📥 Design Results: Translating these complex vibrations into actionable data for maximum base shear and structural capacity.
