Two Weichai Marine Auxiliary Engine Injection Pumps. One Goal: Keep the Vessel Running. ⚓🔧

These two Weichai inline injection pumps arrived with different problems:

🔹 Pump #1: Engine RPM was fluctuating (hunting). Inspection revealed a worn governor assembly. We replaced the governor and governor thrust bearing, then thoroughly inspected and calibrated the pump to restore stable engine speed.

🔹 Pump #2: The engine would suddenly lose power and shut down. After diagnosis, we found a damaged camshaft. Since surplus Weichai camshafts are difficult to source and ordering a brand-new one would take too long—causing costly delays during dry dock—we used a serviceable camshaft from the client’s spare pump. We also replaced the governor bearings and completed a full reconditioning.

Since both pumps were already disassembled, we performed a complete cleaning, inspection, reconditioning, and calibration to ensure reliable performance before installation.

Today, we received a set of marine main engine injectors for testing and calibration. After evaluating the job, we respectfully declined because these injectors require specialized marine testing equipment that is beyond our current facility’s capabilities.

Marine Main Engine Injectors – Pressure Testing ⚙️🚢

All six (6) marine injectors underwent pressure testing. Five (5) passed the test and were found to be in good working condition. One injector had its nozzle tip replaced as per the client’s instruction.

The Chief Engineer was also present during the testing, allowing him to personally observe how the injectors were tested and evaluated on our calibration bench. We believe that showing the actual test results helps build transparency and trust in our work.

Customer complained of poor engine performance. Upon pressure testing, all four electronic injectors had very weak to almost no spray pattern, with Injector #4 in the worst condition.

The initial recommendation was to replace the control valve, but due to the high cost, the customer requested that we first attempt reconditioning.

The initial recommendation from the mechanic was to replace all four injector nozzle tips. However, after conducting a thorough pressure test, our technician confirmed that the injector nozzle tips were still within specification, with proper opening pressure and spray pattern. There was no need for unnecessary replacement.

Instead, our inspection identified the injection pump as the root cause. We performed the necessary reconditioning to restore its performance.

Every vehicle that comes to REL-Diesel Injection Pump Calibration Services is thoroughly inspected before any repair is recommended.

For this Kia Sportage, our calibration test revealed that the injection pump was already in excellent working condition. After balancing and calibration on our test bench, we found no need to dismantle or overhaul the pump, helping our customer save on unnecessary expenses.

The injectors, however, showed irregular spray patterns. Since they were still serviceable, we reconditioned them instead of replacing them, restoring proper performance at a lower cost.

As a result, the final bill was significantly lower than the initial estimate.
