SCULPTING WAYS OF LIVING
How Bushidō taught us to sculpt ourselves before we sculpt the world.

Architecture is a practice of constant refinement.
We spend our lives shaping spaces, resolving details, and searching for better ways to build. But before we can refine our craft, we must refine ourselves.
Through Bushidō, we explored discipline, presence, courage, humility, and mastery, not simply as principles of the warrior, but as disciplines that can guide the architect.

Each exercise became a reminder that the architecture we create is ultimately a reflection of who we are.

We practiced a single stroke, over and over again. Not to make the movement complicated, but to make the simple precise. To quiet the mind, discipline the body, and understand that mastery is built through repetition.

Throughout the retreat, we returned to the teachings of Miyamoto Musashi, words written centuries ago, yet remarkably relevant to the discipline of the architect today. His philosophy became a quiet thread running through our reflections, training, and conversations.

The following images capture some of those moments, each accompanied by a teaching from Musashi that resonated with our journey.

We're looking for a facilitator!

This July, Cali Architects will be stepping away from the drawing board for a two-day retreat at The Brut at Magallanes Cavite one of the first projects that shaped our practice.

We're looking for someone who can guide us through more than strategy sessions and team-building activities. We're seeking a facilitator who believes in conscious leadership, mindfulness, grounding, meaningful conversations, and building strong organizational culture.

Stepping outside my comfort zone for this one.

Not a heritage expert, so instead of a history lesson, I’ll be offering a different lens on heritage, shaped by practice, place, and the realities of building in Baguio.
