Featuring one of our fave spots in our most recent project: the kitchen counter!
Let’s be honest—your kitchen counter is the true MVP of your home. It’s where everything happens: slicing vegetables, hiding groceries, setting down hot coffee, gathering with friends, and grabbing a quick breakfast on the go.
In this project, we designed an island-style counter with an extended seating area, effortlessly blending serious prep space with a cozy dining spot.
If you're planning your own kitchen counters, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Height matters: The right height saves your back during long cooking sessions.
- Pick smart materials: Choose a surface that laughs off moisture, heat, stains, and daily wear and tear.
- Protect your workspace: Give yourself plenty of uninterrupted room to cook and keep your favorite appliances handy.
- Design for comfort: Make sure any seating overhang leaves enough room for proper legroom and bar stools.
- Layer your lighting: Beautiful pendant lights over an island double as brilliant task lighting and major style points.
- Plan the behind-the-scenes stuff: If you want a sink or outlets in your island, map them out early in the construction phase.
- Leave room to breathe: Keep enough clearance around the counter so people can move freely and cabinet doors can open without hitting anything.
At the end of the day, great kitchen design isn't just about looking good for photos—it’s about how naturally it fits into your daily routine. Always design your space around your actual lifestyle.
