The PNG Forest Authority, as part of its commemoration of the International Day of Forests (IDoF)🌳🌳🌳which is celebrated annually on 21 March would like to announce to all especially to school students that we are running a School Competition inviting students to submit an interpretation of the Theme for IDoF 2023 which is "Healthy Forests for Healthy People"

Students can submit an entry under:
1) The Drawing Competition📝
2) The Short Video Competition🎬, or
3) The Essay Writing Competition✍️

For more information on criteria and eligibility, please refer to the flyers.
Deadline for entries has been extended to close of business on 20 March 2023.
Winners will be announced on Tuesday 21 March 2023 and presentations for prizes will take place on Thursday 23 March 2023 at the PNG Forest Authority Head Office, Frangipani Street, Hohola, NCD.

Met with the PNGFA Ulabo Project team today to finalise plans for the major awareness at East Cape tomorrow - tree planting with the children. Part of the IDoF Committee with Chairman Mr. Gewa Gamoga was in Alotau with Manager Reforestation & Afforestation (R & A) Southern Mr. Tom Bukon a few days earlier. Today, Director R & A Mr. Constin Bigol joined the team. The Ulabo Project was visited also, including the log pond.

The International Day of Forests (IDoF) Committee Chairman Mr. Gewa Gamoga today handed over T'shirts and caps to the staff of the Milne Bay Provincial Forest Office through the Acting Provincial Head Mr. Noel Dibela. The HQ team will be joining the provincial team in carrying out some awareness about IDoF and promoting the importance of tree planting but more importantly, the need to nurture and look after the seedlings to grow into healthy trees.

On behalf of the East New Britain Provincial Administration (by Ms. Florence Paisparea, who shared photos of the event), commemorating the IDoF and in conjunction with the provincial Landcare Management Program.The celebrations started with a float around Kokopo City the official launching was at Kokopo Market. The schools and a few wards within Kokopo City and the nearby wards participated in the tree planting and awareness. Four primary schools, 1 technical training Centre ( Vunamami Farmers Training center), Kokopo Business College, Kalamanagunan, Kokopo Secondary and Kokopo Primary school. A total number of about 4,000 to 7,000 seedlings was planted in particular hardwood species including Kamare, Taun, Mahogany etc. The target areas for planting were affected by soil erosion to complement the Provincial Environment/Forestry/Climate Change Unit or the Sector's Landcare Management Program.
