We now have an online link available to purchase Richard Claydon’s History of Waiotahi. The book is $75 and can be paid for through the link below. You can collect your copy from our office, or we can courier it anywhere in NZ for an extra $10.

It’s a 310 page paperback edition and will be available from this Wednesday. We only have 100 copies in this first batch and around 20 are already pre‑sold, so get in quick if you’d like one.

Massive congratulations to Jamie Croad and James Cairns for achieving a major milestone 🎉

They have completed their NZ Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Civil) – Earthworks Level 4 and their NZ Apprenticeship in Infrastructure Works.

Balancing study with full time work is not easy, and these two have shown real determination to get it done 💪

📖 A very special milestone for Richard! 🎉

After a couple of years of putting pen to paper Richard has finished his book on the history of Waiotahi.

Last night, we celebrated with a special book launch, where Richard was incredibly proud and happy to share his work with his friends and family.

It’s a detailed record of the people, stories and history that have helped shape Waiotahi over the years, and something that will be treasured for generations to come. ❤️

A huge congratulations, Richard, on this amazing achievement! 👏📚

And thank you to everyone who came along last night to celebrate this special milestone with him. It was a awesome evening and a fitting way to mark the completion of such a meaningful project.

Like many of our team, Reegan started his Waiotahi journey straight from school as a labourer and has worked his way up through the ranks — from labourer to Surveyor and Quality Manager, now playing a key role on some of our bigger projects. 👷‍♂️📐

Reegan is an absolute star team member — always willing to lend a hand, help out his teammates and get stuck in wherever he’s needed.

Last Friday our team had the privilege of hosting tauira from Rukuhia Te Mahi - Work Connect.

We ran a workshop covering what life on a construction site looks like - safety, PPE, hazards, and the many career pathways the civil construction industry offers.

We’re excited to soon welcome two tauira for a four week placement, giving them real on the job experience and the chance to work alongside our teams.

Waiotahi is proud to be part of this kaupapa that supports people to upskill, grow their confidence, and step into long term employment.

We had 15 tamariki from Tōrere Kura visit our Reids Road site today to learn about how a quarry works, why it’s important, and the sustainability practices we use to look after our environment.

Our team enjoys having tamariki visit site — their curiosity, questions, and genuine interest in what we do reminds us why we think our mahi is pretty cool!

We’re Hiring: Specialist Works Manager – Whakatane Based
Waiotahi is looking for an experienced Specialist Works Manager to lead our Concrete and Minor Civil Works team.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and support crews
• Plan and coordinate work programmes
• Price specialist projects and assist with monthly claims
• Manage QA, testing, and compliance
• Keep sites safe, tidy, and running smoothly
• Build strong client relationships
• Work closely with the Contracts Manager on delivery and resourcing

What you’ll bring:

• Strong concrete skills, including formwork, placing, finishing
• Solid general building skills and practical site knowledge
• Class 1 licence + WTR
• Experience managing construction projects
• Good understanding of civil works
• Confident with budgeting, planning, and reading plans
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities
• Positive attitude and good judgement
