Our first build in Canterbury is done.

A Valtra T235 fitted with a PALMS 7.94 crane on a JAKE 904 mounting system assembled by the team at Northern Tractor Service.

The JAKE 904 frame runs the full length of the tractor chassis and wraps both rear axles, so the crane's working load goes into the frame rather than the tractor.

A big thanks to Northern Tractors for a highly professional job from start to finish.

Off to its new home in Whangārei. This PALMS C10 log grapple is heading north to go on a crane truck.

Why PALMS? Steel. Every PALMS grapple is built in Estonia from Swedish Strenx high-strength steel. It's stronger for its weight, so there's less dead weight on the end of the boom and more of the crane's lift goes into timber.

Wood 'n' Tree are family owned with more than 25 years behind them in Canterbury — tree removal, pruning, land clearing, mulching and firewood across the region.

Most people think of PALMS grapples as tractor gear. This one's working off a truck-mounted hiab in the Bay of Plenty.

Same unit goes on a digger, a tractor crane or a trailer crane — worth
knowing if you've already got the machine sitting there.

PALMS C10. 0.28m² grapple area, 1615mm opening — the largest log grapple
PALMS make. Flange-type rotator connection, built for daily use rather
than the odd lift. Suits a 12 to 14 tonne digger.
