Opening October 2nd!
As our opening day fast approaches, it's time for a little update on our hours for the season, our products and the general how, who and what of the whole situation.

Who we are:
I'm Sophia, the 'ideas' lady, most often the 'do-er' but not often the 'finisher.' That's where my sister comes in!

Esme has the epic talent of giving anything a go, finishing what she started and generally letting me splatter ideas and wild inventions around. And more often than not, being the patient voice of reason that talks me off the ledge. (Seriously, thank goodness for her!)

Grant is my man, who more often than not, gets dragged along for the wild ride that is me. He's the muscle behind the scene, (although Esme and I do pretty alright most of the time, thank you very much!) and he'd been very active of late with redesigning and building a new shop for the premises. (honestly, just wait till you see it!)
Then of course there's the little people who also pitch in around the farm. They range from 12-16 years old and we couldn't have gotten this far without their help.

What we do:
Basically we love dirt!
Yes, that's right, we're a dirty lot who grow with the soil and science, not against it. That means we also don't like adding unnecessary and FAKE things onto our plants and soil.
Working with nature may have it's own challenges, but I've never been the one to take the easy road (ask any of my family)!
Though we haven't gone to the expense of certifying our farm, we grow organically.
Specialty cut flowers, plants, and seasonal veges.
We also stock a range of gifts, cards and other fun things that can enliven your visit or make a great addon gift for someone.

Our products are available to purchase at our farmshop, located at 192 Bells Road, West Melton. We also have subscriptions for both bouquets and vege boxes available at www.wideskyacres.org

Hours:
Hours for this season will be same as last year: Friday 2pm-6pm and Saturday 8am-6pm. Opening October 2nd-Closing End of April.

How to shop:
We accept cash and bank transfer and have plenty of parking out the front of the property. The farmshop is located just off the road, inside our flower field.

Come in, take a load off and enjoy the multitude of sights to be seen.

We can't wait to show you what we've been growing this season, reveal our new shop and meet you all again.

As always, thanks so much for supporting local.

XO Sophia

How far do your veges and flowers travel to get to your home?
If you’re a brave green thumb, it may only be a few steps.
But in the supermarkets it’s a different story….produce and flowers often sit there for days before they are purchased.
Did you know that when fruit and veges are harvested, some can start to lose their goodness almost immediately?
By the time they reach the shop, wait to be purchased, then sit in your fridge, over half the nutrients can be lost.
Let alone flowers that only last a couple of days on your table- how disappointing!

But it’s spring coming up and it’s the time that we all get far too excited about seed packets and the endless possibilities of the season.

So I wanna hear from the growers out there…
Who is growing something this season?
What are you challenging yourself with?
Or perhaps, what is your failsafe crop- the one that even though you break all the ‘rules’ you just don’t seem to be able to mess up!

Mine is in the comments.

X
Sophia

What IS the Flower Society?
I’m SO glad you asked!
Inspired by one of my favourite loves, aka BOOKS, I’m putting together bouquets that tell STORIES.
And because everyone loves different genres, there’ll be plenty of variety for everyone.

In the Society, each month will have a genre, each week a theme/story within that genre.

The Society members will each receive their bouquet and a collectable card; a little something to remember the experience by once the flowers are gone.

I will be releasing the genres over the next few days.

If you’re already on the edge of your seat thinking, ‘But Sophia, HOW do I join?’. I’m glad you asked!
Flick me a message and I’ll add you to the priority list. The offical signups begin Sept 1st with limited places.

Oh, I JUST can’t wait for Spring! 💐

Introducing The Wide Sky Flower Society
Beginning this October, I'm growing a small collection of bouquets inspired by some of the stories I love.
Each month has a different theme. Each week, members collect a new bouquet — grown here in West Melton from flowers actually in season at that time.
These bouquets won't be sold individually from the farmstand. They're being grown especially for members, and there won't be many memberships.
The Founding Member waiting list opens Sept 1st.

Keep your eyes peeled for new and exciting things coming soon to Wide Sky Acres.
