🚨FIRE SAFETY ALERT🚨
Diesel Vehicles and Diesel Particulate Filters
As we enter the fire season, it's important that those operating diesel-powered vehicles are aware of the fire risk associated with diesel particulate filters (DPFs).
A DPF is an emissions-control device fitted to most modern diesel vehicles. It periodically heats to very high temperatures to remove soot collected from exhaust gases. During this regeneration process, the DPF and other exhaust components can become hot enough to ignite dry grass and vegetation.
To reduce the risk of fire:
⚠️Drive and park on metalled roads, formed tracks, or bare ground wherever possible.
⚠️Avoid driving or parking in long, dry grass.
⚠️Never stop or park where dry grass or other flammable material is close to, or touching, the exhaust system.
⚠️ If a vehicle has travelled through long, dry grass, inspect the underbody and exhaust area for trapped vegetation.
⚠️ Check for smoke, burning smells or signs of smouldering before leaving the vehicle unattended
