DAMAGED COLLAR -22MM HAMMERLOCK

Look beyond the dirt...

Dirt and folds in rope or rigging can hide damage.... What you can't see CAN hurt you.

Check out this 22mm hammerlock, which has a damaged section in the collar. Damage like this can be hard to see during inspections if covered in dirt and mud.

âš Small defects can lead to catastrophic failure.âš

INSPECTION REMINDERS:
✅Always clean off dirt and debris from all hardware before inspection.
✅Inspect the full circumference of the collar, pin and body.
✅Look for cracks, wear, deformation or missing material - especially in hard-to-see areas.
✅Check inside rope eyes, around splices and under folds.
✅If in doubt- TAKE IT OUT

📣Safety Alert! 📣

RECENT SPIKE IN LOG TRUCK AND TRAILER ROLLOVERS

Industry discussion and safety incident data have highlighted a concerning increase in log truck and trailer rollovers across NZ.

Industry leaders, forest owners, transport operators and the Log Transport Safety Council say the trend requires immediate attention - and action.

While every rollover is different, common contributing factors include:

⚠ High payloads and over height loads reducing margins for error – with more operators carting on 54 and 58 tonne permits.

âš  Excessive speed for conditions.

âš  Driver distraction and mobile phone use.

âš  Fatigue and work pressure.

âš  Increased cost pressure from rising diesel prices.

âš  Road and weather conditions.

âš  Infrastructure not fit for purpose.

âš  Driver competency and experience.

âš  Inadequate monitoring and compliance systems.

âš  Poor load distribution and load security.

There are a number of key actions for the industry to take, which you can read more about at:
https://tinyurl.com/StopThinkAssess

But remember...

STOP. THINK. ASSESS

Before every journey ask:
✅Am I fit for work and free from distraction?
✅Is the schedule realistic and free from excessive pressure?
✅Do I understand the route, hazards, and current conditions?
✅Is the truck configuration suitable for the road and operating conditions?
✅Is the load correctly positioned and secured?

If the answer is 'no' to any of these questions - stop, and address the issue before travelling.
