Six years ago today, Green Valley Gardening began. ๐ŸŒฟ ๐ŸŽ‚

Some of the gardens we look after now, we've been maintaining since 2020, a real mark of trust from clients who've stuck with us from the start. Along the way we've picked up many more fantastic clients, and built a team we're incredibly proud of.

Here's a clip from our recently filmed brand video. Grateful for everyone who's been part of the journey so far, and excited for what the next six years hold. ๐Ÿ’ช

Meet Tim, our Supervisor and 2IC. ๐ŸŒฟ

With over 20 years in the industry, Tim previously served as Head Gardener at both the UK High Commission and Government House before joining GVG.

He now leads our Wellington City team, keeping things running smoothly across our embassy and residential clients. Outside of work you'll find him fishing, working on his house or spending time with family.

Precision, consistency, and a calm head under pressure, Tim brings all three to every property he oversees.

Blue skies for the first day of spring. โ˜€๏ธ

Yesterday's job list: buxus trimmed to crisp lines, sprayed with Topbuxus NZ , fertilised, and dolomite lime worked through the beds. Set the garden up right heading into the warmer months. Couldn't have asked for a better day to be out in it.

Bring on spring.

Monday morning, and spring is just about here. ๐ŸŒฟ

Spring officially arrives this week, and the team is ready for it. It's been a big winter of pruning and planting, now we move into a busy maintenance period for our residential and embassy clients.

If you want one of the best looking, well maintained gardens in Wellington, get in touch now before our books close for the season.

From ambassador grounds to residential gardens to apartment buildings in the city, it's been a busy winter for the GVG team. ๐ŸŒฟ

Every property has its own character and its own demands, and we bring the same level of care and precision to all of them. As we move into spring, we're closing out this year's planting bookings to focus on our maintenance clients, planting bookings for next winter are now open if you'd like to get in early.

Look closely and you'll spot these everywhere in Wellington right now. ๐Ÿค

Michelia, sometimes called evergreen magnolia overseas, is one of our favourite flowering trees and hedges, and it's putting on a real show this week. Delicate white blooms against deep glossy foliage, right when the garden needs a lift most. A sure sign spring isn't far off now.

Keep an eye out on your own street this week, they're hard to miss once you know what you're looking for.

๐ŸŒฟ The bit between the jobs matters just as much as the jobs themselves.

A quick break during a shoot day at Woodcote Gardens recently, coffees in hand, no agenda, just a chance to stop and check in.

Running a team isn't just about making sure the work gets done. It's about making sure the people doing it are actually okay. How they're feeling, what's going on in their lives and whether they need anything.

These conversations don't happen in a team briefing, they happen around a picnic table with a hot drink in the middle of winter.

We genuinely care about our team. Not just as gardeners, but as people. That's not something we say for Instagram, it's just how we try to operate every day.

A good team is built in moments like this one. Have a great Friday team ๐Ÿ’š

Chilly mornings still, but you can feel spring edging closer and honestly, we can't wait for the warmer weather. ๐ŸŒž

It's been one of our busiest winters yet at GVG, and that's exactly how we like it. Heading into spring and summer prepped, organised, and ready to give every garden the attention it deserves.

Here's to a great week ahead.

Late winter, and this magnolia isn't waiting for spring. ๐ŸŒธ

Already putting on a full display against the Wellington hills, weeks ahead of the rest of the garden waking up. Moments like this are what make the work so rewarding, watching a garden's rhythm play out exactly as it should.

What's blooming in your garden this week?

Winter in the citrus grove means one job above all: copper and oil. ๐Ÿ‹

Our Martinborough team sprayed copper to guard against verrucosis, the fungal disease behind those bumpy, warty patches on citrus skin, and horticultural oil to knock back scale and aphids before they take hold. Left unchecked, those pests secrete honeydew that sooty mould feeds on, and if you're spotting ants on your citrus, that's often the giveaway they're farming scale for exactly that.

Citrus gets an extra feed here at the start of winter too, ahead of its main fruiting window, on top of our standard three-times-a-year fertilising. Come spring, once fruiting's done, we'll thin the canopy with clean cuts to let in more light and airflow, better for fruit, harder for pests to hide.

Genuine care, all year round.
