Celebrating Matariki

As we mark Matariki, we take a moment to reflect on the year that has passed, celebrate the present, and look ahead with optimism and purpose.

At Choice Construction, we are grateful for our incredible team, clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and the communities we work alongside. Together, we deliver projects that make a positive difference across New Zealand, particularly in healthcare and other community focused environments.

Matariki reminds us of the importance of connection, gratitude, and taking time to recognise those who have helped shape our journey. It is also an opportunity to look ahead with renewed energy and a continued commitment to our values: People First, Make it Easy, Do the Right Thing, Stand Together, Embrace Change & Innovation, Deliver, and Celebrate & Have Fun.

As we reflect on the year gone by and the opportunities ahead, we thank everyone who has been part of our journey and look forward to continuing to build strong relationships and better outcomes for our communities.

From everyone at Choice Construction, we wish you and your whānau a safe, happy, and meaningful Matariki.

Mānawatia a Matariki. ✨

A fantastic few days at the NZIQS Conference 2026. Our team enjoyed connecting with colleagues from across the construction industry, learning about emerging trends, and exploring how AI, sustainability, and digital innovation are shaping the future of Quantity Surveying.

The biggest takeaway? While technology continues to transform the way we work, strong relationships, collaboration, and professional expertise remain at the heart of successful projects.

Thanks to NZIQS for another valuable event. We're excited to bring new ideas, insights, and connections back to Choice Construction.

This week, we had the privilege of celebrating the completion of the new Radiology Suites at Wellington Hospital alongside our client and valued contractor partners.

It has been an honour to be part of a team delivering such an important healthcare project for the people of the Wellington region for New Zealanders. Projects like this play a critical role in supporting better health outcomes for our communities.

A sincere thank you to everyone involved, your collaboration, expertise, and commitment made this achievement possible.

Choice was thrilled to host NAWIC members for a site visit to the Boulcott Hospital extension and refurbishment project, alongside CCM Architects and Rubix

The project features two brand-new operating theatres, an expanded and upgraded Post Anaesthesia Care Unit, and a modern kitchen designed to support enhanced services. It’s all about boosting surgical capacity, improving patient recovery spaces, and upgrading essential service infrastructure to meet growing healthcare demands

We’re proud to highlight the strong female leadership across the project team. It was a pleasure to have our female leaders host the visit and share their insights and experiences with an engaged and enthusiastic audience.

Ngā mihi nui me te arohanui to the entire project team and contractors who, despite working hard to reach Practical Completion in the coming weeks, took the time to share their knowledge and expertise.

🌌 Mānawatia a Matariki – Celebrating New Beginnings

This week, our teams across the city came together to honour Matariki, the Māori New Year — a time to reflect on the past, remember those we’ve lost, and look ahead with purpose.
We shared kai, stories, and laughter, taking a moment to appreciate our journey and the people who make it meaningful. Matariki reminds us that whānau, unity, and connection are the heart of everything we do — values that are deeply embedded in our culture at Choice Construction Group.

As the Matariki star cluster rises, we pause to acknowledge the relationships that ground us and the aspirations that guide us. Here’s to continuing our journey with gratitude, innovation, and collaboration.

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

✔️ Talk to your crew—mental health matters too
🦺 Safety Reminders
✔️ Always wear your PPE
✔️ Check your gear before use
✔️ Lift with your legs, not your back

Supporting the Cause: NAWIC Pink Ribbon Breakfast

Breast cancer touches the lives of many—whether it's through loved ones, colleagues, or personal experience. On Friday, 23rd May, our Director and Senior Quantity Surveyor, Alice Carmody, proudly represented Choice Construction Group at the NAWIC Pink Ribbon Breakfast, as Chief Bingo Caller and Auctioneer. NAWIC raised over $800 to pledge to the cause.

This powerful event is part of a nationwide initiative raising essential awareness and funding for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Every contribution helps fuel life-saving research, patient support programs, and vital education about breast health and early detection.

The best prevention is early detection -That’s why we’re proud to have delivered new breast screening facilities in the Wellington and Wairarapa region, helping improve access to early detection and care. We're dedicated to building healthier, stronger communities.

Together, through support and innovation, we can help save lives.

Throwback Thursday | Hutt Hospital Surgical Suites

Two years on, we’re proud to reflect on a milestone project that continues to make a lasting impact. Delivered in partnership with Te Whatu Ora – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley, the new surgical suite at Hutt Hospital was officially opened on April 3rd, 2023.

This purpose-built facility, located on Level 2 of the Clock Tower above the plastic surgery outpatient department, features five dedicated procedure rooms.
Designed to support minor surgeries—such as the removal of skin cancers, fibroids, and cataracts—it was built to facilitate over 500 procedures in its first year.

At Choice Construction, we’re committed to challenging conventional methods and delivering spaces that improve outcomes for patients and communities alike. It’s a privilege to support our healthcare system with infrastructure that directly reduces wait times and enhances patient care.
