Scaffolding a project like this takes a bit more planning than simply building from the ground up!

The scaffolding can’t just work for where the build is today, it needs to work for what’s coming next too.

At the Ara Paekawakawa project in Island Bay, the Erect It crew have been adapting the scaffold through each stage of this high-rise build.

A big part of that is planning around crane operations and making sure the scaffold gives the builders the access they need, without getting in the way of what needs to be lifted into place.

Stage 1: Creating scaffold access for the builders and positioning it so they can drill and install the steelwork around the concrete.

Stage 2: Laying out the scaffold to give the builders the access they need to complete the subfloor.

Stage 3: Scaffolding up to allow the timber frames to be stood, the roof purlins installed and the roof laid, while creating working scaffold for both the builders and roofers.

On a complex site like this, it’s all about thinking ahead and making sure the scaffold supports each trade and each stage of construction as the building comes up.

Scaffold Solutions for Exterior Repairs and Repainting in Avalon, Lower Hutt

Erect It Scaffolding recently provided a safe and practical scaffolding solution for exterior repairs and repainting work on a residential property in Avalon, Lower Hutt.

The scaffold was carefully designed to provide secure working platforms and safe access to all required areas of the building, allowing contractors to complete repairs, surface preparation and repainting efficiently.

Health and safety were central to the scaffold design. The system included fully decked working platforms, secure guardrails, safe access points and appropriate buttress bay instead of tying anything into the property to maintain stability throughout the project.

Extra care was required around the property’s concrete roof tiles. Concrete tiles can crack or become dislodged when subjected to concentrated weight, impact or incorrectly positioned scaffold components. Our team carefully planned the scaffold layout to avoid placing unnecessary pressure on the roof and handled all equipment cautiously during er****on and dismantling.

Where access near the roof was required, scaffolders avoided walking directly on the tiles wherever practicable. Components were lifted and positioned carefully to reduce the risk of damaging the tiles, ridge caps, gutters and fascia. The work area was also kept controlled to help prevent dropped materials from striking the roof.

The completed scaffold provided safe access for the contractors while helping protect the existing roof and surrounding property.

Rolling Dessa Roof System in Khandallah, Wellington— now in the final stages of dismantling.

Our crew erected this temporary roof and weather-protection system to allow a complete renovation of this long-overdue property, including:

• Structural alterations
• Full roof replacement
• New exterior cladding
• Replacement of all windows

Careful planning was essential, especially as this site is located above the Ngauranga Motorway and exposed to some of Wellington’s highest wind zones.

The temporary roof was assembled from purpose-built loading bays before being rolled across the house on wheels. This allowed our crew to build the structure safely behind guardrails without climbing across exposed roof trusses.

This method also significantly reduced installation time compared with building the temporary roof using traditional methods.
