Did you know hot water can account for around a third of your home's energy use? That's a pretty good reason to make sure you've got the right system!

There are plenty of different systems available, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. And what works well for one household might not be the right fit for another.

At Northern Gas & Plumbing, we believe it's important to look at the bigger picture and help people make informed decisions about what's right for their home.

Hot water technology has come a long way. Has yours? 👀

If you're still running a gas califont, it could be worth looking at what today's heat pump hot water systems have to offer.

We've secured some excellent pricing on the ECONOVA 300L Heat Pump Hot Water System, so we're running a promotion for $6,380 for a supply and standard installation.

Heat pump technology can significantly reduce the energy needed to heat your water, making it a great option for homeowners looking to improve their home's efficiency or make the move towards all-electric living.

But as we always say, there's no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to energy.

We'll look at your current setup, explain your options and help you make an informed decision.

Still paying gas line charges or cylinder rental just to heat your water?

For some households, switching to an all-electric setup with a hot water heat pump could mean fewer ongoing costs, without compromising on efficiency.

EECA reports that hot water heat pumps can use 60–75% less electricity than conventional electric hot water systems.

But here's the thing... a heat pump isn't the best solution for every home.

At Northern Gas & Plumbing, we specialise in the latest hot water technologies, from gas to electric and heat pumps. We'll assess your current setup, explain the options and help you make an informed decision.

Not all gas piping systems are the same, and with so many options available in New Zealand, knowing what you're working with matters.

PEX piping can be a cost-effective option, but the wide range of systems, fittings and specialised tools can add complexity to installation and future maintenance.

At Northern Gas & Plumbing, we favour copper wherever practical. It's durable, has a long track record in gas installations and offers a reliable solution without relying on proprietary crimping systems.

Ultimately, it's about choosing the right materials for the job, not simply the cheapest option.

When was the last time you thought about how much energy your hot water uses? 💧

Hot water heating can make up around a third of a household's energy costs, so choosing a more efficient system could make a real difference to your ongoing bills.

The Econova Hot Water Heat Pump is one option worth considering. By using heat from the surrounding air to warm your water, it can use significantly less electricity than a conventional electric hot water cylinder.

And with some NZ banks offering lending options for eligible energy-efficient home upgrades, making the switch could be more accessible than you think.

At Northern Gas & Plumbing, we specialise in the latest hot water technologies and can help you work out which system makes the most sense for your home.

When it comes to energy, there's a lot more to consider than just the upfront cost.

From gas and electric to heat pump hot water systems, every option has its advantages, and what works well for one home or project might not be the best fit for another.

At Northern Gas & Plumbing, we're passionate about helping people understand their options. We believe in being upfront, sharing our knowledge and taking the time to explain the different systems, their efficiencies and long-term costs.

Our goal is simple: to give you the information and confidence to make the right decision for your home or project.

100 valves. Every single one gets tested.

As part of this job, every tailpiece valve we’ve put together needs to be individually pressure tested before it goes onto the network.

The valve is pressured up, checked for any leaks and only passed once we’re happy it’s holding as it should.

Follow along for more behind the scenes with our team.

Gas, electric, heat pump, solar… what’s actually the best option for your home?

The answer isn’t always straightforward and it shouldn’t be based on one system in isolation.

Hot water, heating and your electrical setup all need to work together. That means looking at how you’ll use the home, what your priorities are, your upfront budget and what makes sense to run long-term.

We work alongside electricians and other trades to look at the bigger picture and recommend a setup that makes sense for the individual project.

Sometimes that might include gas. Sometimes it won’t. The goal is simply to create an efficient, well-planned system that works for you.

Planning a new build or renovation? Get us involved early.

When it comes to hot water, you don’t necessarily have to choose between a quality system and a sharp price.

Through our supplier network, we have access to competitive pricing across a range of premium hot water systems, including some particularly sharp pricing on heat pump hot water right now.

But getting the right system is about more than the price tag. Your household, water usage, available space and long-term running costs all play a part in what will work best.

That’s where we come in. We can talk you through the options, recommend a system that suits your home and take care of the installation from start to finish.

If you’re building, renovating or your current hot water system is due for an upgrade, talk to your local hot water specialists.

A factory shutdown doesn’t leave much room for delays.

We recently completed the replacement of a corroded steel pipeline at the PepsiCo Bluebird factory in Auckland, working within a tight shutdown window and some seriously tight access.

What was already a challenging job became even more involved when we uncovered a few surprises below ground. The team pushed through a 14-hour Saturday followed by 16 hours on Sunday to get the job completed and production back up and running.

Big weekend and big effort from the team.
