It’s the end of another rewarding project. We are very pleased and proud to have completed the final phase of the Rawene Reserve Remediation Works project for Auckland Council, marking the conclusion of a larger Auckland Council project to repair the devastating 2017 Rawene Reserve landslip in Birkenhead.

Our work involved significant earthworks on a very steep and challenging site, constructing new stream channels, tying in stormwater connections, and building a maintenance access track, along with extensive landscaping and planting to restore the reserve. The new more resilient Rawene Reserve, with upgraded stormwater infrastructure and environmental enhancements, will continue to serve the surrounding Birkenhead community for many years to come.

Projects like these are only possible through strong collaboration. A big thank you to Tonkin + Taylor, Auckland Council's Closed Landfill Team, the Birkenhead Village Business Association, surrounding residents, and the wider Birkenhead and Northcote Community (NZ) for your support and partnership throughout the project. Special recognition however needs to go to our site staff and trusted network of subcontractors whose skills, effort and commitment made the project a great success – a huge thank you to all of you! You won’t need to climb that hill again 😊

It was a great pleasure hosting Kaipātiki Project and Northcote Intermediate School on site at the final section of Te Ara Awataha, Northcote’s new greenway.

There has been a keen interest from students, following our progress through the fence, since the start of the project, so having them join us on site to help plant 280 native species was a very cool experience. Thank you to all the students from Room 4 for all of your help - your work has transformed the site.

We look forward to completing the final section of this exciting Auckland Urban Development Office project so that the entire community can enjoy it.

Over the past few weeks, our team has been busy commissioning and demonstrating Glasgow Contractors' new UWT Mobile Desludging System at Link Drive in Wairau Valley.

The new system builds on our established dredging and dewatering capabilities, providing a more efficient way to remove sludge and sediment from stormwater and wastewater ponds, while reducing waste and lowering transport and disposal requirements. By separating litter, organic matter, sand and silt at source, the new system helps reduce the volume of material sent to landfill and creates opportunities for beneficial reuse where appropriate.

For us, it's another step forward in helping councils, asset owners and communities maintain healthier waterways and better-performing stormwater infrastructure.

It has also been a privilege to welcome so many community groups, industry stakeholders, leaders, and local and central government representatives, as well as the Swiss Ambassador, Viktor Vavricka, to see the system in action. The interest, conversations and shared commitment to improving environmental outcomes have made the experience especially rewarding.

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated in the event, took the time to visit our site, and learn more about the work we do. A special thank you to Christian Knuchel from uwt.swiss and our Glasgow Contractors team, whose hard work, professionalism and commitment successfully helped commission the new system while continuing to maintain output and performance for our client.

We are proud and excited to share the transformative work our teams have delivered in converting two aging stormwater ponds into a new sinuous wetland that will deliver lasting environmental and community benefits.

The project involved:
• Removing over 30 tonnes of aquatic w**d and pest plants
• Dredging, dewatering, and disposing of 7,000 tonnes of pond sediment
• Upgrading critical stormwater network connections
• Constructing and planting a new 9,500 m2 sinuous wetland
• Bulk earthworks and landscaping of a natural amphitheatre

In addition to enhancing Tāmaki Makaurau's flood resilience through improved stormwater management, the new wetland will also help improve the water quality of the Puhinui Creek catchment, reduce sediment discharge into the Manukau Harbour, and create more diverse habitats for native birdlife, fish, and plant species.

It has been a privilege to partner with Auckland Council and work alongside the Healthy Waters Design and Delivery teams to bring this important environmental restoration project to life.

A sincere thank you to our dedicated staff, trusted subcontractors, community stakeholders, Auckland Council, Due Drop Events Centre, and everyone who supported and contributed to the successful completion of this project. Together, we are helping create healthier waterways, stronger ecosystems, and more resilient communities for future generations.

We are on the hunt for a mechanically minded individual to join our Waitoki-based workshop team. No formal qualifications required, but must have experience (professionally or personally) working on cars, trucks or earthmoving machinery. The right attitude is critical as you’ll be working closely with two existing mechanics.

You’ll get to work on some cool machinery including our amphibious machines, but you’ll also need to be okay with sweeping the shed out and cleaning trucks.

Long term training and development opportunities exist to the right person. Health insurance provided after 6 months of service. Remuneration is based on skills and experience, but we pay living wage as minimum to all employees.
